Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit launches localized platform in Indonesia

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit announced on Thursday that it has launched a local operating platform in Indonesia after acquiring a majority stake in digital asset company PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal (formerly known as NOBI). Through this transaction, NOBI changed its name to Bybit Indonesia. The exchange said it plans to launch the service in phases, initially offering 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs.

The exchange will have Lawrence Samantha as CEO and Dionisius Evan as chief operating officer, both former NOBI executives.

"This acquisition allows us to combine Bybit's global capabilities with a locally experienced team familiar with the Indonesian market and regulatory environment." Samantha said in a statement.

According to data from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority, as of February 2026, Indonesia has 21.07 million registered crypto asset users, and the total amount of cryptocurrency transactions in 2025 will reach US$26.85 billion (482 trillion Indonesian rupiah). As of April, Indonesia has issued 31 cryptocurrency-related entity licenses, including two cryptocurrency exchanges, two clearing institutions, two custodians and 25 digital asset traders, including PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal.
