Andrew Cuomo, the 56th governor of New York, served from 2011 to 2021, resigned amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Last year, he tried to make a comeback and run for mayor of New York City, but lost to Zohran Mamdani. Today, Como has made a major career transition by joining the board of directors of the OKX cryptocurrency trading platform.
Star Xu, founder and CEO of OKX, announced the news on the X platform on July 20 and said that Como has been a trusted consultant to the exchange since 2023. His deep leadership experience is an important step towards the company's goal of "building the world's most trusted large digital asset exchange."
Xu Mingxing added: "Governor Cuomo has been OKX's thoughtful voice for years, and his joining the board will formally establish a relationship that has influenced the way we enter the U.S. market. When we build OKX into the infrastructure layer of traditional finance and digital finance, we need people who understand what governments, institutions and markets really think. This is the value he brings."
On June 22, OKX and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), announced the formation of a joint venture to focus on building next-generation infrastructure for tokenization and digitally native financial products. The joint venture will be co-chaired by ICE and Cuomo.
Como later said: "This cooperation combines OKX's world-class blockchain technology with ICE's trusted market infrastructure to help build a more modern, transparent and resilient financial system for the future. I am personally excited about the social impact blockchain technology can have: democratization of finance and the provision of basic financial services to underserved people."
Como's old relationship with OKX
According to an April 2025 report, the exchange hired Como as a consultant during federal authorities 'investigation into OKX.
In February 2025, OKX parent company Aux Cayes Fintech Co. Ltd. pleaded guilty to one count of operating a money transfer business without a license and agreed to pay fines totaling more than US$504 million.
During last year's mayoral campaign, Mamdani severely criticized Cuomo for advising U.S. authorities during their investigation of the cryptocurrency exchange.
