The Ethereum wallet, which had been sleeping for 11 years, suddenly woke up. What happened next?

The Ethereum pre-dug address that had been sleeping for eleven years suddenly woke up

Eleven years are enough to precipitate everything. On July 21, an Ethereum pre-dug address that had been completely silent since 2015 transferred 2000 ETH pieces, worth approximately US$3.78 million at current prices. When the asset was last active, its total value was only about $620.

The deal was flagged by online monitoring service Whale Alert. The wallet is classified as a pre-dug address, meaning it received the tokens during the creation of the Ethereum network or shortly after-a time when the assets were not yet publicly traded and the vast majority of people didn't even know what Ethereum was or what it might become in the future.

Unexpected return

This account is difficult to settle. A position worth $620, held for eleven years without any manipulation, is now worth $3.78 million. This means that a return of about 610,000% is achieved entirely by "doing nothing."

No proactive management, no trading, no rebalancing. There is only one wallet address, and it remains silent in every Ethereum rise, slump, DeFi midsummer, NFT boom, bear market and recovery.

Ironically, the people most likely to receive this kind of reward either forget they own these assets or deliberately choose not to check them.

What does this mean for the market

Such an ancient dormant wallet is activated and often attracts market attention for only one reason: it leads to speculation about what the holder intends to do next. A wallet that has been sleeping for eleven years suddenly transfers its entire balance, which is no ordinary transfer.

This may mean that the holder intends to sell, either undertake a managed migration, or just a belated cleanup operation. The current trading price of Ethereum is approximately US$1,890, down approximately 62% from the historical high of US$4,953.

Whether the timing of this awakening was a coincidence or carefully calculated, only the owner of the wallet knew.
