South Korea's Future Asset Securities subsidiary officially becomes Kbit's largest shareholder

Mirae Asset Consulting, a subsidiary of South Korea's financial group Mirae Asset Financial Group, officially completed relevant regulatory procedures on July 23 and became the largest shareholder of Kbit, a domestic cryptocurrency exchange. South Korea's antitrust agency, the Fair Trade Commission, approved the deal in early July 2026, saying it was the first case in which a subsidiary of the country's traditional financial group acquired a cryptocurrency exchange.

The acquisition gives Future Asset Consulting a 92.06% ownership of Korbit. The group said the acquisition aims to ensure future growth drivers related to digital assets.

The shareholding ratio will rise further this week

According to the Korea Herald, Future Asset Consulting submitted a revised regulatory filing on July 21, planning to purchase another $5.32 million worth of Kbit shares. The transaction will increase Future Asset Consulting's shareholding ratio from 92.06% to 97.15%. Yonhap News Agency reported that the increase in holdings is expected to be completed on July 24.

Further details about product changes, service expansions or leadership changes have not been disclosed after the transaction was completed.

Deposits and user data will not be affected

Korbit stated in the announcement that the exchange's operating entities, user deposit structures and personal data processing methods will remain unchanged after the transfer of ownership. The exchange has not announced any immediate adjustments to its platform as a result of the deal.

Future Asset Consulting has not disclosed specific plans on how to develop Korbit's business in addition to the stated goal of "building growth momentum in the digital asset field."
