Havenex: A compliant exchange for financial institutions
Kostas Kryptos Chalkias, co-founder and chief cryptographer of Mysten Labs (developer of the Sui blockchain), launched Havenex, a regulated exchange designed for financial institutions that want to access both digital and traditional financial assets within the same platform.
For banks, not retail traders
Chalkias made it clear that Havenex does not target retail markets dominated by companies such as Coinbase, Binance, Bybit or Kraken. Instead, the platform is positioned as an underlying infrastructure that allows banks and asset management companies to provide digital and traditional financial assets to customers while meeting the compliance, custody, security and transparency standards required by these institutions.
The technical architecture fully reflects this focus. Havenex will integrate verifiable escrow, proof of continued solvency, multisignature security, and quantum security keys. The introduction of quantum security cryptography is timely. The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) has urged the financial industry to complete the migration to quantum-resistant cryptography by 2035, a deadline that is also in line with U.S. National Security Memorandum No. 10 and NIST guidelines, which plan to no longer allow classical public-key cryptography after 2035. For banks, payment providers and digital asset platforms, discussions have shifted from the cognitive stage to the proactive planning stage.
Series A financing is coming to an end, and license application has been submitted
Havenex is in the final stages of its Series A funding round. The platform has submitted an application for the regulatory license required for its planned operations, indicating that the project has moved beyond the conceptual stage.
Chalkias brings deep cryptographic credentials to this career. He holds a doctorate in identity-based cryptography and serves as co-founder and chief cryptographer of Mysten Labs, where he played a key role in the development of the Sui blockchain. Previously, he led Meta's Libra project cryptography team and served as a senior researcher in security projects such as WhatsApp. He is also known for his research on zero-knowledge proofs and has more than 50 scientific publications, including research on proofs of solvency for centralized cryptocurrency exchanges.
At the technical level, Havenex plans to use Sui infrastructure where appropriate, while integrating components from other blockchain ecosystems. Chalkias will support the project in an advisory capacity while maintaining his primary focus at Mysten Labs.
