Cardano founder responds to community criticism: SBI chose Solana to cause controversy
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson responded to community criticism. Earlier, Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings decided to work with Solana to advance its stablecoin and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization plans, a move that sparked dissatisfaction among ADA holders.
SBI is betting on Solana to deploy Japan's on-chain financial market
On July 13, 2026, SBI Holdings and Solana Foundation announced the establishment of SBI Solana Global, aiming to create Japan's first on-chain financial market. Based on the cooperation, SBI R3 Japan will adopt the proposed new name SBI Solana Global and work with shareholders SBI Holdings and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group to promote a new growth strategy.
SBI Holdings defines SBI Solana's functions as: supporting the issuance and circulation of stablecoins, supporting the structure and circulation of tokenized real-world assets, and developing payment infrastructure for AI agents. According to SBI, the platform aims to connect Japanese financial assets with the global liquidity pool. This cooperation is based on Japan's existing regulatory framework for the issuance of stablecoins and securities tokens, which is relatively mature in major financial markets around the world.
Hoskinson: Don't expect IOG to do everything with treasury funds
Japanese financial giant SBI Holdings turned to Solana blockchain, sparking open conflict within the Cardano ecosystem. The company's announcement sparked a wave of criticism among ADA holders. Some pointed to Japan's historic support for Cardano, which was enough for Hoskinson and Input Output Global (IOG) to secure a similar scale of cooperation.
Hoskinsen refuted this claim. He argued that such commercial partnerships should be funded through Cardano's on-chain treasury, rather than relying on IOG or himself to facilitate each institutional partnership. Hoskinson stressed that if the community wants collaboration at the SBI level, it must fund the business plan itself, rather than asking for solutions on social media.
This conflict exposed the systemic challenges Cardano faces. Solana ensures integration directly through active, centralized foundations, while Cardano tries to follow purely democratic rules-each grant must go through a lengthy voting round. For Hoskinson, it's a manifesto: Decentralization means that every token holder is now responsible for the commercial success of the network, not one prominent leader.
It remains unknown whether the broader ADA community will accept this view and whether Cardano's treasury governance can flexibly bid for cooperation at the speed required by institutional partners.
