Unlock Today: The supply shock of ARB tokens and the truth about the market
Let me tell you what happened today on the highway we reported on two days ago. About 92 million new ARB tokens were released from vaults, while token trading prices were hovering near historical lows set at the end of June. For tokens that are in a downward trend,"unlocking" is the most terrifying word. But please read the "shipping label" for this particular delivery carefully, because where the tokens go is more important than how much they are.
According to tracking data, the ARB trading price on July 14 was US$0.08989, and with the arrival of the unlock on July 16, 2026, the price remained around US$0.09. The token is slightly above the all-time low set at the end of June-we had previously reported a rebound of 13.8% marking the funding round reaching the secondary network sector.
Unique perspective: Read the label, not the title
Here are the details concealed by the word "unlock". According to the ownership schedule announced by the project party, approximately 92 million ARBs released today (approximately 1.65% of the issued supply) will flow directly to the Arbitrum DAO vault rather than the team's wallet or early investors. Why is this difference important? Because the damage caused by unlocking stems from tokens that are eager to be sold. When the vesting cliff releases tokens to insiders and venture funds, history has given a clear answer. The unlocking of Arbitrum itself in May 2024 is a typical lesson: 92.65 million ARBs flowed to teams, advisers and investors, and some of the tokens poured directly into the exchange, and prices fell as planned-those tokens were born with sellers.
Treasury tokens are another existence. They enter the DAO's treasury and remain there until governance votes to use them for grants, incentives, or operations. No fund manager will wait for a market sell-off this afternoon. From the perspective of mechanical selling pressure, today's event has almost zero impact on the first day.
Now let's look at the other side of honesty: unlocking is "notorious" through two slower methods. First, treasury tokens are a "deferred supply" rather than a "cancelled supply": every grant and incentive plan eventually converts some of the tokens into a selling stream, like a drop of water through a stone, and this trickle has been going on for years. Second, unlocking the title itself can shake the price. A large number of traders sell the word "unlock" without reading the tag, and in such a depressed token, emotion is the most vulnerable line of defense. Even without any mechanical reasons, the market may still close down today.
The only key number
About $8 million. This is the dollar value of today's unlocked tokens at the current price: 92 million coins multiplied by approximately 9 cents. Looking at the historical comparison: Almost the same amount of unlocks in May 2024 was worth US$92 million, because the ARB transaction price exceeded US$1 at that time. In the same incident, the value of the dollar was only one-tenth of the value and flowed into the treasury rather than the exit channel. This number is enough to illustrate a deeper problem: After two years of decline, ARB unlocking has shrunk from a major event affecting the market to a rounding error. This is the expression of surrender pricing on the supply side. As for whether this also marks the bottom, the answer will be revealed by charts rather than calendars.
Key Prices
The roadmap on our forecast page is still valid. Support level: $0.08-the lifeline on which the entire rebound attempt relies now also serves as the stress test line after unlocking. Resistance: $0.10 (the "ten cents" mark) remains the key level at which focus can be transformed into belief. Recent transactions have also formed a tighter support band near $0.078 in the downward direction. If a sell-off triggered by unlocking the title occurs,$0.08 will be the position where selling pressure will either weaken or be decisive.
Background support
The paradox around which we built the ARB forecast page has not diminished this month, but has become more prominent. Robinhood launched Robinhood Chain's public mainnet-a tokenized stock network built based on Arbitrum Orbit technology that Uniswap completed integration from the first day. LG Electronics chose Arbitrum technology to build a customized second-layer network for advertising infrastructure. The network reported locked in value of more than $18 billion. The trading price of the tokens that govern all this is hovering near historical lows, with a market value of only US$572 million this week. Usage rises, prices fall: The problem of value capture is presented in its purest form. Days like today also fuel the views of both sides: bulls point to institutions building on highways; bears point to 92 million more tokens on a road that has not yet collected tolls.
Conclusion
Today's unlocking is the mildest version of the horrific event: the dollar is small, flows into the treasury, and is mechanically almost harmless on the first day. The risk lies in the slow flow of water and the reflexive title seller, and $0.08 is the key price to measure both. The narrative that really matters is consistent with our prediction page: highways continue to win tenants, while tokens are still waiting to prove their value. Pay attention to the US$0.10 mark above and the US$0.08 support line below, so that the unlocked market trend can speak out on its own.
