Telegram plans to launch a full-app native Gram wallet this summer

Telegram plans to natively integrate unmanaged Gram wallets in full-platform apps this summer

Instant messaging app Telegram plans to integrate a native unmanaged Gram wallet in all its versions this summer. The move will embed self-managed infrastructure into a platform with more than 1 billion monthly active users.

founder Pavel Durov announced the deployment plan through his official channels on Tuesday, calling it the largest deployment of an unmanaged cryptocurrency wallet to date. He said the integration will support instant, zero-fee transactions within Telegram.

This wallet will allow users to directly control their private keys rather than holding assets through a centralized custodian. Telegram has not released specific launch dates, technical documentation or details of how network fees will cover it.

Durov's statement indicates that the wallet interface will be distributed through the Telegram application, potentially reaching the entire user base of the platform. This announcement does not mean that all Telegram accounts will automatically become cryptowallets with funds or active.

Gram becomes Telegram's native payment asset

The product will use Gram, the new name for the token previously traded under the name Toncoin. Blockchain remains an open network (TON), and its native currency has returned to the name Gram, as it used when Telegram's first blockchain project was first.

Telegram abandoned its original Gram offering in 2020 after a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission case blocked the distribution of tokens sold to private investors. Independent developers continued to build this open source network, which later evolved into TON.

This reintegration allows the Gram brand to enter Telegram directly more than six years after the original project was terminated. After Durov's announcement, Gram rose about 7%, trading at close to $1.53, and its market value rose to about $4 billion. As the market expects to expand token access channels through Telegram, transaction volume has also increased.

Telegram extends TON-based financial products

Telegram has supported wallet services, token transfers, mini apps and TON-based payments through open platforms and integrations built by other ecosystem developers. The new product will embed self-managed wallets directly into core applications, rather than requiring users to activate separate robots or mini apps.

Developers are increasingly using Telegram as a distribution layer for financial applications. In June this year, a Polymarket-based prediction market launched that supports TON wallets and USDT settlement, allowing users to trade event contracts without leaving the messaging app.

Native wallet access may also support point-to-point payments, tipping, token transactions, and Telegram mini apps using Gram. Durov did not say what features were available when it went online, or whether access rights would differ in different jurisdictions when deployment began this summer.
