Japanese game developer Gumi announced that it will officially launch a 3 billion yen ($18.3 million) crypto asset fund on Saturday in conjunction with SBI Financial Services. The fund is backed by Daiwa Securities Group and other investors.

The fund is operated by SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture in which SBI Financial Services holds a 51% stake and Gumi subsidiary gC Labs holds a 49% stake. [TAG

According to Gumi's announcement on Tuesday, the fund will invest primarily in bitcoin and mainstream altcoins, employing strategies such as pledge, portfolio rebalancing and hedging.

said that the fund's mission is to build a bridge between Japan's corporate community and the crypto market, while at the same time gaining operational experience before Japan may lift its ban on crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the future.

This launch builds on Gumi's expanding crypto businesses, which include managing its own crypto asset portfolio with XRP at its core, providing portfolio management services through Hinode Technologies, and operating crypto investment funds.

According to the company's latest annual report, crypto assets have become an important part of its balance sheet. As of April 30, 2026, Gumi's crypto assets reached 14.13 billion yen, nearly doubling from 7.58 billion yen in the same period last year.
