Ripple invests in Zilo and Licuido to expand the use of XRPL collateral

Ripple announced on August 3 strategic investments in two British companies aimed at promoting the more effective use of tokenized financial assets as collateral on its blockchain infrastructure. The two companies are Zilo, a provider of transfer agents and fund administration technology, and Licuido, a tokenization platform regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Specific financial terms of both transactions were not disclosed.

Zilo provides technical support to asset management companies, custodians and transfer agents to help investment funds manage tokenized share categories while operating on the chain. According to Traxcn, the company has so far received a cumulative total of US$58.7 million in equity financing. Licuido focuses on issuing and distributing traditional financial assets in digital form and enables these assets to serve as collateral through on-chain atomic settlement.

Solving the problem of idle collateral in the capital market

Ripple said that these two investments aim to allow tokenized funds to be used as collateral from the beginning of issuance, thereby eliminating the current link that causes idle capital. The company pointed out that global capital markets face inefficiencies such as slow settlement, idle collateral and limited liquidity channels. Its XRP ledger (XRPL)-based infrastructure is designed to address these deficiencies by integrating issuance, custody, collateral liquidity and atomic settlement.

Nigel Khakoo, senior vice president of trading and markets at Ripple, said Zilo provides a regulated digital transfer agent layer, while Licuido provides the infrastructure for collateral liquidity. He pointed out that these two capabilities are crucial for the large-scale promotion of tokenized fund structures at the institutional level. Khakoo also mentioned that Ripple's existing partnerships with Aviva Investors, Franklin Templeton and DBS Bank indicate that asset managers have begun to deploy tokenized fund structures on a large scale.

The announcement comes just a week after Aviva Investors launched a tokenized share category for its U.S. dollar liquidity funds on XRPL after receiving approval from the Bank of Ireland. Ripple initially partnered with Aviva Investors in February 2026 to explore tokenization of traditional fund structures on the ledger.

Ripple Dollar and the Position of XRP Ledger in the tokenized Market

Ripple launched the Ripple Mint platform in July 2026, providing institutions with tools to mine, redeem and manage their dollar-pegged stablecoin, Ripple Dollar (RLUSD). Ripple positions RLUSD as the regulated cash portion of "cash versus silver" transactions on XRPL.

According to data provider RWA(dot)xyz, XRPL currently holds US$368 million in tokenized real-world assets (RWA), ranking 11th among all blockchain networks on this indicator. Ethereum (ETH) ranks first with US$17.1 billion in tokenized RWA. As of August 3, the total value of tokenized assets on all networks reached US$37.3 billion, an increase of 1.5% from the previous 30 days. During the same period, the number of RWA holders increased by 50% to 1.57 million.
