SEI Sei v6.6 upgrade and launch: Giga components landed on the main network for the first time.
Sei (@SeiNetwork) v6.6 has been officially launched at a block height of 224,201,091. This is the largest upgrade since the introduction of EVM support in May 2024. This release integrates nearly 400 pull requests and, more importantly, marks the first time that the SeiGiga component has touched the main network.
Ares and Eidos: The first Giga components are officially launched
The two major changes in v6.6 target different levels of the technology stack. This release introduces the initial components of two of the three Giga upgrades: Eidos, a new storage layer that will begin migrating the chain's historical data into its own database;Ares, a rebuilt execution engine that will become the default path for running transactions.
Ares is now the default execution path on all upgrade nodes. According to relevant information, its throughput is about 10 times that of previous plans. With the release of v6.6, Giga is no longer just a plan on the roadmap, but is starting to run on the main network: Eidos has moved historical data into storage built for expansion, and Ares has become the default execution path.
Eidos improvements address long-standing structural efficiency issues since EVM support was launched. Previously, Seii's EVM historical data and Cosmos status shared the same database, which meant that historical data readings competed with real-time activities, and modules that were not related to EVM still had to pay write costs for EVM data. Eidos separated the two. EVM historical data will be migrated to a dedicated database to avoid interference between reading historical data and real-time transactions.
Security patches and verifier optimizations
In addition to Giga components, v6.6 also fixes more than 30 security issues, covering denial of service attack vulnerabilities and supply chain hardening. Verifier operations have also received practical improvements, including faster pruning capabilities and adjusted consensus timing to improve the smoothness of daily operations.
Ares and Eidos are only the first step, and subsequent versions will continue to advance. v6.6 is a mass release that includes many fixes that are not related to SeiGiga. The third pillar of the Giga plan-the new Autobahn consensus mechanism-was not included in this release. Consensus, as the third core part of Giga's upgrade, will be available in subsequent releases.
Long-term goals remain ambitious. The complete Giga upgrade aims to achieve transaction processing capabilities of more than 200,000 transactions per second and final confirmation times of less than 400 milliseconds through the new Autobahn consensus mechanism and asynchronous parallel execution. These data are still forward-looking benchmarks rather than real-time indicators, but v6.6 is the first substantive step towards these goals on the main web.
