XRP Ledger launches a "confidential transfer" feature to help institutional users improve transaction privacy

XRP Ledger (XRPL) is developing a new feature that aims to provide institutional users with greater privacy protection for token transfers. As one of the upgrade proposals to the latest software version of the network, XRPL 3.3.0, this feature is named "Confidential Transfer" and is specifically targeted at the institutional tokenized asset market of more than US$530 million.

The "Confidential Transfer" feature is designed to hide the token balance and transfer amount, while ensuring that account information and the type of token used remain visible on the network. The move aims to enhance the business privacy institutions need when conducting transactions on blockchain.

This feature is mainly for XRPL-based Multi-Function Tokens (MPTs). Funds, bonds and other tokenized financial assets are expected to become its main application scenarios.

Technical principle: Zero-knowledge proof ensures verification security

The system will use encryption technologies such as zero-knowledge proof to verify the validity of the transfer without disclosing the transaction amount. This design not only maintains the verifiability of the network, but also prevents sensitive financial information from being exposed to public blockchain data.

XRPL Real Asset Data Overview

Data shows that XRP Ledger currently holds approximately US$1.38 billion in real-world assets (RWA). Among them, approximately US$845.7 million is the U.S. dollar anchored stablecoin RLUSD issued by Ripple. Excluding RLUSD, the value of tokenized assets on XRPL exceeds US$530 million. Issuers of these assets include financial institutions and tokenization companies such as Ondo, VERT Capital, Archax, and Societe Generale.

XRPL 3.3.0 version brings multiple enterprise-level upgrades

XRPL 3.3.0 version not only includes the "confidential transfer" function, but also introduces enterprise-oriented upgrade proposals such as Batch, Sponsor, Permission Delegation, and Dynamic MPT. These enhancements are designed to meet needs such as batch processing, third-party transaction fee coverage, authorization management, and dynamic token modifications.

However, these upgrades have not yet been activated on the XRP Ledger main network. Deploying these features requires uninterrupted support from at least 80% of XRPL's trusted verifiers for two consecutive weeks.
