Nearly half of stolen cryptocurrency funds flowed out through unaudited smart contract vulnerabilities in the past four years.
A preprint study released in June pointed out that in the past four years, nearly half of the stolen cryptocurrency funds have been lost through smart contract audits. The study, led by Oak Security's Stefan Beyer, compared 23,818 audit reports disclosed by 22 security companies with 218 security incidents recorded between January 2022 and March 2026, involving an estimated total loss of US$7.764 billion.
