Pi Network's major news and PI token price update: August 13

Although the official X account behind the project has not yet announced the completion of the upgrade, many social media users claim that Pi Network has deployed the penultimate major upgrade before the deadline. We will discuss this in depth. This article will also cover some regulatory news, as well as price movements of native assets and upcoming token unlocking.

Version 26 is here?

The core team started major protocol updates early this year and released version 19.6. Multiple versions were subsequently released one after another. They said that the 26th version must be completed by August 11, and according to the roadmap, this will be the penultimate version. The team urged main network node operators to complete the upgrade before the deadline, otherwise they would face the risk of network disconnection. This date has passed and the team has not officially confirmed the successful migration to the v26 version. However, this has happened in the past and does not necessarily mean that they failed to complete the upgrade before August 11. In addition, many accounts on the X platform claim that the upgrade has been successfully completed. Danielus 2 's latest comment states: "Everything you see on the Stellar network up to protocol v26 is now also available in the Pi Network." The community is looking forward to the release of the final version, version 27.

Licensing and Launch

A recent report reminds that Pi Network has applied for regulatory registration in the European Union under the MiCA framework launched in July. The application was submitted by PiBit Ltd, the legal entity representing the project, and a white paper was submitted under the MiCA framework last year, which was subsequently registered by ESMA as No. 549 in early 2026. The broader Pi Network community claimed in February that PiBit LTD had received full approval from MiCA, but there was no official confirmation; this was just an application to get that green light. As we saw in the Binance incident, applications do not necessarily guarantee approval. Another development that may be ignored is the launch of native tokens on SolCex, the first centralized exchange on Solana. The platform update shows that since August 12, it has launched PI, as well as Canton Network's CC and Ethereum Classic (ETC).

Ecosystem Exploration Mission Participants

Pi Network's official X account recently summarized one of the more interesting events that occurred after Pi2Day (June 28), which lasted for about two weeks. The event, called the "Pi2Day 2026 Ecosystem Discovery Mission," guides users (known as "Pioneers") through activities to help them discover new applications, test ecosystem capabilities, and understand how the broader infrastructure supports the creation of utilities in computing, artificial intelligence and identity. According to the team, more than 2.5 million users have explored these new apps and features, such as SoloHost, Pi Sign-in and PiVerify, and nearly 1.8 million users have received special in-app badges. They added that the updates allow Pi Network to provide distributed computing through nodes users run, provide OAuth-style account access beyond its browser, and provide paid KYC verification to external businesses that aim to drive practical utility and token needs through artificial intelligence and identity infrastructure. However, community responses were mixed. Some praised the move, while others were frustrated by the duplication of tasks and badges and called for the launch of core utilities such as DEX and launch boards.

PI Unlock and Price Updates

The native tokens of this project have fluctuated greatly recently. It rebounded from a record low of $0.07 in mid-July, but was blocked at $0.10. It fell below US$0.08 at the end of the month, but successfully recovered that level and even rose to above US$0.09 many times in August. However, every attempt has been blocked near that level, and prices are currently slightly below that level. Despite this, PI is still 25% higher than the ATL in July, but has fallen 97% since the ATH set in February 2026. According to PiScan data, BenX points out that more than 775 million tokens are expected to be unlocked by the end of this year. Although this number sounds high, especially given the huge selling pressure, BenX claims that most of the tokens are circulated within the ecosystem without being spent. However, the continued growth in active supply is a concern, as investors who have been waiting to unlock for a long time may sell their tokens, further increasing selling pressure. This is especially true under current market conditions.
