Telegram has applied to operate the.gram top-level domain, a move that could allow more than a billion of its users to obtain exclusive URLs tied to their personal Telegram user names. Founder Pavel Durov said that if approved, users will be able to have addresses such as "yourname.gram". The application was submitted during the 2026 expansion round of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the first open window for new gTLDs since 2012.
How Telegram will use.gram
Under the plan, Telegram users can directly associate their existing accounts with websites hosted by the company. Durov also mentioned that users only need to generate interactive pages with a single artificial intelligence prompt. This will allow Telegram username to break beyond the scope of instant messaging and transform into network identities.
This idea is different from domain names operated by companies such as Google and Amazon because Telegram aims to allow ordinary users to have exclusive addresses. Currently, ICANN has not approved the.gram domain name. The application now needs to go through evaluation, possible objections, dispute resolution and contract signing, which means that it is difficult to be officially launched in the short term.
Telegram has not disclosed whether the.gram address is free and the specific allocation method.
GRAM token price response was flat
This news has had limited impact on Gram (GRAM) tokens so far. The token trades at approximately US$1.32 and has a market value of approximately US$3.65 billion. Although Telegram continues to expand its blockchain ecosystem, the Grain price is still well below the high of $8.25 set in June 2024.
Telegram has also recently added cryptography-related services, including wallet capabilities, and achieved deeper integration with the network previously associated with Toncoin. If approved,.gram will provide Telegram with another way to integrate usernames, websites and digital assets under a unified identity system.
