Peaq introduces human authentication mechanism for the machine economy
Peaq has officially integrated World Network's World ID into peaqOS, adding a privacy-protecting authentication layer that allows machines and robots to confirm that they are interacting with verified humans without collecting any biometric data throughout the process.
This integration addresses the growing challenge in decentralized physical infrastructure: how to build trust between autonomous machines and the humans they serve, especially high-risk scenarios such as drug distribution in smart city environments such as Seoul. Now, a machine powered by peaq can verify the identities of both parties to a transaction: verifying its own identity through peaq's machine ID system, and verifying human identity through World ID's humanity certificate.
Core: Zero-knowledge proof
The system relies on zero-knowledge cryptography to confirm a user's human identity without revealing personal information. Zero-knowledge proof verifies that a person is a unique human individual without sharing personal information with third parties requesting the proof; it also protects World ID from cross-application tracking or association with any biometric data.
The verification process involves Orb, a high-tech camera that captures images of the user's eyes and face to confirm that they are real and unique. This process only takes one time. Once verified, the verified World ID is stored in the World App on the user's phone and can be used to log in to various online apps and services. Once verified, the data is encrypted, sent to the phone, and permanently deleted from Orb. Only the user's mobile phone holds its data and World ID.
This integration connects to a sizable network. More than 39 million people have joined the World Network, of which more than 18 million have been verified through Orb. Since its launch, the network has used World ID certificates more than 475 million times. Covering 160 countries, it provides peaqOS with a ready-made, globally distributed identity layer dedicated to the DePIN space.
Peaq Network is a Layer 1 blockchain specifically designed for decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN) and real-world assets (RWA). The integration of World ID is embedded into its architecture as the human counterpart of peaq's existing machine identity tool. The move marks a greater impetus to bridging the authentication gap in autonomous machine networks-historically, human verification capabilities have lagged behind machines in transactions.
