BNB Chain is about to usher in a major Pasteur hard fork upgrade
The BNB Chain community is preparing for the upcoming Pasteur hard fork upgrade, with only two days left before the upgrade. This major upgrade will introduce an enhanced block verification process, a more secure verifier key rotation mechanism and higher transaction capacity per block.
Moving from speed to efficiency?
Unlike major updates earlier this year, Pasteur takes a completely new approach. The Fermi upgrade in January significantly shortened block time to 0.45 seconds, while the Osaka and Mendel forks in April stabilized this speed. Pasteur aims to optimize the utilization of current speeds while also addressing two vulnerabilities that allow verifiers to maintain privileges for extended periods.
According to the development team, this upgrade will activate three improvements under the BEP-673 proposal group. Among them, BEP-682 is used to enhance bridge verification, BEP-695 ensures the correct rotation of verifier keys, and BEP-675 is aimed at optimizing block composition.
The BNB Chain team announced that the Pasteur update will bring stronger bridge authentication, more secure verifier key rotation and higher per-block capacity to the network.
What are the key technical changes?
BEP-682 and BEP-695 focus on strengthening bridge structures and governance mechanisms. BEP-675 is designed to fill blocks more efficiently. Evaluation of the test network showed that transaction capacity soared from 1237 transactions per second to 2324 transactions per second.
In this design, the block proposer can forward previously executed blocks to the verifier, who checks, signs, and publishes them according to consensus rules, and then completes the full verification. Such infrastructure details prompt investors to pay close attention to data flows during peak capacity periods, especially near key resistance levels. A sudden decision by the Federal Reserve or an unexpected launch of altcoins could quickly change the market. Today, savvy traders are turning to privacy-first tools such as CryptoAppsy, which integrate core features such as instant charts, smart price alerts, personalized news feeds, and key macroeconomic indicators without requiring cumbersome account settings.
The Pasteur hard fork differs from the speed-driven focus of two previous updates and aims to effectively leverage current performance while addressing critical verification vulnerabilities.
Main network timeline has confirmed
Pasteur hard fork has been running on the BSC test network since July 21. It is expected to be activated on the BNB Intelligent Chain main network at 02:30 UTC on August 25, 2026. Network operators are urged to upgrade to version 1.7.7 by this date.
BEP-675 is aligned with the 2026 capacity enhancement roadmap. As a result, Pasteur is not only seen as a short-term technical adjustment, but also a critical step in a broader effort to expand network throughput.
Capacity improvement targets 2026 goals
In the first half of 2026, BSC shortened the block interval to 450 milliseconds, ultimately reduced the in-memory performance to 650 milliseconds, and the transaction processing benchmark is close to 5200 transactions per second. Goals for the second half of the year include doubling the throughput of the main network again.
The BNB Chain team emphasized that the plan means that overall network performance will increase by 10 times in the long run. Pasteur hard fork is a key component of the plan to double the main network's transaction capacity.
