ShardLab strategically invests in StoreHub to jointly expand the commercial payment and reward ecosystem in Southeast Asia.

ShardLab, a financial technology venture capital studio supported by global investment institution Hashed, has made strategic investments in StoreHub, Southeast Asia's leading business and payment platform. The two parties will also form a joint venture to explore new consumer payment and reward experiences for merchants and consumers in the region.

StoreHub's business covers Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Japan, serving more than 20,000 merchant stores. Its platform processes more than 200 million transactions every year, with an annual transaction volume of approximately US$3.5 billion.

ShardLab was established through a strategic partnership between Hashed and SCBX, one of Thailand's largest financial groups, to build and commercialize products at the intersection of cutting-edge technologies and financial services. This cooperation with StoreHub connects this work with a large-scale, real-life commercial network for the first time.

Southeast Asia provides a particularly favorable environment for this cooperation. The region has a large population that is under-covered by traditional financial services, with a youthful population and extensive mobile device usage.

The joint venture provides both parties with a framework to test new models-jointly verify with real merchants and consumers, and only scale up solutions that have proven effective. Specific products and plans will be announced at launch.

Wai Hong Fong, CEO of StoreHub, said: "StoreHub has spent more than a decade building the commercial and payment infrastructure needed for Asian merchants to operate their daily operations. ShardLab and Hashed have been at the forefront of payment and reward technologies for many years, and this collaboration aims to bring these technologies to real merchants on a large scale. Any product we build together must pass the same StoreHub test: Can it help merchants sell more products? At the same time, a bigger shift is taking place within StoreHub: We are reshaping our products around AI so that a restaurant with only three employees can have the operating capabilities of a team of thirty."

Hojin Kim, CEO of ShardLab, said: "For the past few years, we have been testing how new payment and reward technologies can improve the daily consumer experience. StoreHub provides us with a completely different resource: a distribution network of more than 20,000 real merchant stores. This cooperation means moving from pilot to scale and creating products that create measurable value for consumers and merchants."
