BNB Chain completed US$931 million destruction, reducing total supply to 133 million

The BNB Foundation completed its 36th quarterly destruction, with a total destruction value of approximately US$931 million worth of BNB

The BNB Foundation has confirmed that the 36th quarterly BNB token destruction performed by BNB Chain has been completed. This destruction incident sent 1,615,827.795 BNBs (valued at approximately US$931,702,464 at the time) to the designated "dead wallet" address.

Destruction mechanism and supply reduction

After this operation, the total supply of BNB is now 133,166,127.91 pieces. BNB Chain uses an automated destruction mechanism and aims to gradually reduce the total supply to 100 million BNBs. The mechanism determines the amount of destruction by taking into account the current BNB price and the number of blocks generated by the BNB Intelligent Chain (BSC) per quarter.

The automatic destruction system is designed to be transparent, allows independent verification, and operates independently of the Binance centralized exchange platform. Through an automated destruction system, BNB Chain aims to ensure transparency and maintain an objective token supply reduction process independent of centralized exchange activities.

Dead wallet (or "black hole" address): A blockchain address without a known private key. Tokens sent to this address cannot be retrieved and are actually removed from circulation.

In addition, BNB also supports a real-time destruction model linked to transaction Gas fees. The BSC verifier determines the share of Gas fees to be destroyed in each block and applies a fixed destruction rate. Since the launch of BEP-95, a total of 290,954 BNBs have been destroyed through this real-time mechanism.

Network upgrade and roadmap

Destruction this quarter and all future destruction will be carried out directly on the BSC network in accordance with the BNB Chain Fusion solution. BNB tokens are sent to the black hole address and permanently withdrawn from circulation.

BNB Chain, the organization responsible for overseeing the BNB blockchain ecosystem, recently celebrated its ninth anniversary-it was officially launched on July 14, 2017. Earlier this month, BNB Chain announced its technology roadmap for the rest of 2026, with a renewed focus on accelerating the network.

In the first half of 2026, BSC shortened the block interval to 450 milliseconds and reduced the final confirmation time in memory to 650 milliseconds. These changes nearly doubled benchmark throughput to approximately 5200 transactions per second (TPS). Its stated goal is to double the throughput of the main network again by the end of the year to support the long-term goal of improving the overall performance of the BNB Chain infrastructure tenfold.

The latest upgrade focuses on significantly increasing transaction speed and scalability, and BNB Chain is committed to achieving a 10x performance improvement in its continuous deployment.

In addition to the above progress, BNB Chain is also developing the next generation Layer 1 blockchain architecture to expand the scope of potential application scenarios. The public test network is planned to be deployed by the end of 2026, and then the main network will be launched in early 2027.
