Trading volume of a stock on Solana exceeds its Nasdaq session

Even though Wall Street closed on the weekend, trading on Solana was never interrupted. A recent case involving RoboStrategy clearly demonstrated how big this difference can be.

RoboStrategy (NASDAQ: BOT) is a closed-end fund focusing on private equity robotics and physical artificial intelligence companies. According to data shared by Solana on the X platform, the fund's trading volume on Solana on Sunday exceeded the trading volume on Nasdaq on the following trading day (Monday). BOT trading volume on Solana on Sunday was higher than on Nasdaq on Monday. Markets will close, but Solana won't. 68.5% of the trading volume came from registered Frontier Trader.

Sunday surpasses Monday

BOT is usually listed on Nasdaq, which means it can only be traded during the U.S. standard trading hours Monday through Friday. However, a tokenized version of the stock is also traded on Solana. Solana is a blockchain network designed for fast, low-cost transactions and can run 24/7, including weekends.

On Sunday, July 12, trading volume for the tokenized version of the BOT on Solana was US$12.86 million. The next day, when Nasdaq opened normally, BOT trading volume was US$9.8 million. In other words, during traditional market closures, this on-chain version of stocks transfers more funds than physical stocks perform during the full trading session.

Solana's post also noted that 68.5% of Sunday's trading volume came from registered Frontier Traders, indicating that the activity reflected a truly active user base rather than a brief isolated peak.

Time nodes are also worth noting. RoboStrategy just completed a series of private equity offerings between July 7 and July 14, raising approximately $16 million at an average price of $35.50 per share. It was unclear whether the financing directly drove trading activity over the weekend, but the overlap in timing was remarkable.

Solana's expanding role in tokenized stocks

This is by no means an isolated case. Solana has steadily established a leading position in the broader tokenized real-world asset market. Data shows that Solana currently has 301,074 tokenized real-world asset holders, which is the highest among all blockchains, ahead of Plume's 247,755, Ethereum's 200,860 and BNB Chain's 118,840. The network currently holds approximately $3.01 billion in tokenized assets, covering 2,121 different asset types, briefly hitting an all-time high of $3.62 billion earlier this month.

Solana ranks third among all networks in total value, behind Ethereum and BNB Chain, but holds an absolute lead in terms of the number of individual holders.

Tokenized stocks have particularly driven this growth. Data showed that Solana recorded US$3.47 billion in tokenized stock trading volume in June, setting a new monthly record and accounting for more than 96% of the total number of tokenized stock transactions on all blockchain that month. This figure shows that Solana is not just hosting these tokenized assets, but has become the main venue for actual transactions to take place.

Robinhood joins the lineup

On July 16, Solana announced that HOODx, the tokenized version of Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD), has been officially launched. Robinhood's HOODx tokenized shares have been launched on Solana via Sunrise and issued by Backpack Securities.

Robinhood is a commission-free trading platform widely used by retail investors to buy and sell stocks, options and cryptocurrencies. HOODx is issued by Backpack Securities, a regulated entity responsible for tokenizing real-world stocks; investors can access the token through Sunrise, Solana's dedicated portal to bring external real-world assets to the network. In effect, this means that investors can now buy and sell tokenized versions of Robinhood's own shares on Jupiter, one of Solana's largest decentralized exchanges and a platform where many traders buy and sell memin.
