Ripple partner SBI joins hands with Ondo to use JPYSC to achieve tokenization of Japanese stocks.
Ripple's long-term strategic partner, SBI Group of Japan, is deepening its presence in the digital finance field by reaching a new cooperation with Ondo Finance. The two sides will jointly promote the tokenization of Japanese stocks and introduce one of the world's largest capital markets to blockchain.
Under the agreement, Ondo Finance, the world's leading real-world asset tokenization institution, will issue tokenized Japanese stocks through Ondo Global Markets (BVI) Limited, while SBI Group will use its vast financial network for product distribution. More notably, the plan will also use SBI's JPYSC stablecoins for settlement and collateral, thereby building a blockchain-based Japanese stock trading infrastructure that connects Japan's domestic market with the rapidly expanding global tokenized economy.
This strategic cooperation goes beyond the distribution level. The two parties also agreed to promote each other's products and services to accelerate the adoption of tokenized assets by institutional and retail users in Japan and internationally.
Ian De Bode, CEO of Ondo Finance, said that Japan is one of the most mature capital markets in the world, and SBI's extensive financial reach provides an ideal channel for Japanese assets to be linked. He added that the cooperation will strengthen the connection between Japan's financial system and the global tokenized economy, while promoting the development of yen-denominated blockchain settlements.
Ripple's long-term alliance with SBI injects new impetus into the tokenized narrative
The announcement follows another milestone for Ondo Finance. Last month, XRP Ledger (XRPL) became the largest blockchain supporting Ondo's tokenized U.S. Treasury funds, surpassing Ethereum and Solana, with approximately US$274 million in assets on the chain. This achievement highlights the accelerated adoption of XRPL as the preferred blockchain for institutional tokenization.
Although Ripple is not directly involved in the cooperation between SBI and Ondo, this development is significant given the nearly decade-old strategic alliance between Ripple and SBI Group. Since its first investment in Ripple in 2016, SBI has grown to become one of the company's largest external shareholders and one of the most powerful promoters of XRP and blockchain applications in Asia. The two companies co-founded SBI Ripple Asia, which enables banks in the region to use Ripple technology to modernize cross-border payments and promotes the wider adoption of the XRP ecosystem in enterprises.
The relationship between the two parties goes far beyond that, and has extended to fields such as digital asset exchanges, institutional custody, stablecoins and tokenized finance. Recently, SBI VC Trade became Japan's first regulated platform to support Ripple RLUSD stablecoins, further consolidating its commitment to Ripple's blockchain ecosystem.
As tokenization reshapes global capital markets, SBI's collaboration with Ondo consolidates its position at the forefront of blockchain finance. At the same time, the transaction expands the institutional ecosystem around the XRP ledger and strengthens its increasingly important role as a real-world asset tokenization and next-generation financial market infrastructure.
