Crypto-asset manager Grayscale has filed a spot ETF application against Worldcoin (WLD) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). If the application is approved, Worldcoin will become one of the cryptocurrencies with spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on the U.S. market.

This development is not only part of Grayscale's plan to expand its product line, but also attracted much attention because it is the first spot ETF application in the United States for Worldcoin. If the process is successfully completed, the fund plans to be traded on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange under the symbol GWLD.

Why is Worldcoin ETF application important?

According to Grayscale's S-1 filing with the SEC, the fund will directly hold WLD tokens. This allows investors to invest in Worldcoin through regulated ETFs without directly purchasing tokens.

After the

application is approved, the process will proceed to the NASDAQ filing of the 19b-4 application and the SEC review stage. If approved, the fund will become the first Worldcoin spot ETF traded on the U.S. market.

Who will manage the fund infrastructure?

The application documents show that the custody services of Worldcoin ETF will be provided by BitGo Bank & Trust. The transfer agency and investor registration of the fund are carried out by BNY Mellon.

If the ETF is approved, its shares are planned to be traded on Nasdaq under the symbol GWLD.

Why has Worldcoin become the focus recently?

The World project was co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and has attracted much attention for its biometric authentication system and blockchain infrastructure. The project is known by allowing users to perform iris scans to create digital identities through an "Orb" device.

However, Worldcoin has been criticized by investors in recent months for token unlocking and price performance. This ETF application has raised expectations that interest in project-level institutions may recover.

Grayscale continues to expand crypto ETFs

Grayscale has previously successfully converted Bitcoin trust funds into spot Bitcoin ETFs and achieved important results. While launching the Ethereum ETF, the company also submitted ETF applications for different cryptocurrencies such as Solana, Dogecoin and Chainlink. If the Worldcoin ETF is approved, Grayscale's number of crypto-related investment products will increase to 17.

How does Worldcoin (WLD) price react?

Interest among Worldcoin investors rebounded again after the ETF application was released. As of this writing, WLD ranks among the major cryptocurrencies with a market cap of approximately $1.3 billion, and investors are closely watching the SEC's review of applications.
