XRP The number of proxy transactions on the XRP ledger exceeds one million, and engineers expect it to reach hundreds of millions in the future.
The number of proxy transactions on the XRP ledger (XRP) has recently exceeded the 1 million mark, and the engineers responsible for the development of RippleX believe that this number will rise significantly. Ayo Akinyele, director of engineering at RippleX, told The Block that he expects agent transactions on the network to soon reach 10 million, and is expected to exceed 100 million in the next few years as agent infrastructure continues to improve.
Proxy payments refer to transactions initiated by AI-driven software on behalf of human users, rather than payments that are manually confirmed each time. Crypto companies have begun providing digital wallets for these AI agents, allowing them to make programmable payments on the blockchain 24/7, without the need for traditional bank accounts or credit cards.
According to Ripple-backed infrastructure startup t54, most of the activity currently recorded on the XRP ledger involves proxy payments for API and data fees, rather than physical goods.
Make payments by AI agents smoother
Akinyele said that XRP ledgers are very suitable for this application scenario due to their specific technical characteristics. The online settlement time only takes three to five seconds, transaction costs are predictable, and the ledger has been with payment as the core from the beginning of its design. These features reduce friction during the real-time payment process that may hinder the operation of autonomous software.
Ripple is a leading member of the x402 Foundation, which includes Coinbase, Circle, AWS, Google, Mastercard, Stripe and Visa. The foundation was originally launched by Coinbase to allow AI agents and applications to automatically pay for APIs and other online services. Akinyele said that this membership allows Ripple to directly influence the way the agency economy is constructed at both the technical and governance levels.
