The Pi core team officially activated the Protocol v25 upgrade on July 22 and described this upgrade as the most significant technological innovation for the network in 2026. This upgrade is mainly dedicated to improving the stability and reliability of the network, while providing new functional support for smart contracts that are more efficient and pay more attention to privacy protection.
Protocol v25 introduces cutting-edge technologies such as BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hash algorithm, allowing developers to build smart contracts and applications with privacy protection capabilities. Specifically, users can verify information without revealing personal privacy details-for example, by proving identity or eligibility without having to upload sensitive files.
The Pi core team also confirmed that subsequent Protocol v26 upgrades are expected to be launched in the future. At the same time as the protocol upgrade, Pi Network also began to update the interface of mining applications, redesigned side menus and profile pages, and added the "dark mode" that was most popular in the community.
Market background: The market value of $PI remains above US$1 billion
This upgrade coincides with a delicate juncture in the token trend. Pi Network tokens ($PI) have a market value of approximately US$1.017 billion and rank 62nd in the CoinGecko rankings. After a period of turmoil, the figure has rebounded above the $1 billion threshold, but it is still far from the historical high.
Although Protocol v25 is an important technology upgrade, many investors are still concerned about whether it can help $PI resume its gains. This update is expected to make it easier for developers to build new applications and increase online activity. However, supply pressure remains a structural concern: According to PiScan data, more than 775.8 million Pi tokens will be unlocked between July and December 2026, bringing more selling pressure to the market.
Currently, the core team is focusing on bottom-level construction. The Pi core team said that Protocol v25 is one of the largest network upgrades this year, and its core goal is to make the Pi blockchain more stable and reliable, and prepare it for future application scenarios.
