Coinbase expands AI-driven financial services to support AI agents using USDC payments

Coinbase is increasing its efforts into the artificial intelligence finance field, allowing companies to accept USDC payments from autonomous AI agents. This is part of a broader expansion of its payment, transaction and developer tools.

It was announced that Coinbase business users will be able to accept USDC payments from AI agents through the x402 payment standard. The standard was first launched in May 2025 and aims to enable AI agents, applications and APIs to make stablecoin payments via HTTP.

The

announcement also announced AI trading tools that allow users to monitor orders, obtain real-time market data, and perform operations based on preset conditions. In addition, a software development kit for developers has been launched for building agent-based applications.

Coinbase said these products are designed to support the "agent economy"-the ability of AI agents to complete payments, manage finances and other tasks on users 'behalf.

The company pointed out that adoption of AI agents is accelerating and mentioned that last month, agent-generated traffic exceeded human traffic for the first time on its Base document page. But it also said that the Internet's financial infrastructure was built on "the assumption that it is humans who click on the button," which leaves companies, developers and users lacking tools specifically designed for AI agents.

The release comes as companies and payment companies are increasingly positioning stablecoins and blockchain-based payments as infrastructure for AI agents, an emerging use case that is becoming a target for multiple exchanges and payment companies.
