AI proxy payments on XRP ledgers gain enterprise-level trust with MasterCard
XRP ledgers are accelerating the development of its enterprise-level AI payments. According to the company responsible for the XRPL x402 coordinator, AI proxy payments on XRPL now support MasterCard's verifiable intent standard, introducing cryptographic authorization and pre-settlement risk checking for autonomous blockchain transactions.
This integration allows developers to attach verifiable proof of authorization to AI-initiated payments. In addition to the standard wallet signature, each transaction can now prove who approved it, the spending limits set, and the specific purchase authorized to be completed.
These credentials are processed through the x402 coordinator and routed to Trustline's risk engine before settlement. Payments will be evaluated based on predefined authorization rules, adding an additional layer of security before funds are uploaded.
The system is built on Mastercard's verifiable intent framework, which is part of its agent business plan. It uses a three-level selective disclosure JSON Web token credential chain (L1, L2, and L3) to verify three key elements: who authorized the payment, what restrictions or conditions apply, and which transaction is being approved. This allows AI agents to obtain machine-verifiable authorization rather than relying solely on wallet ownership.
MasterCard can verify intent to add trust to XRPL AI payments
Verifiable intent will still be optional, and standard x402 payments will continue to run unchanged. However, when valid L1-L3 certificates are attached, the XRPL coordinator automatically submits them to Trustline for verification before the payment is finalized, which helps reduce the risks associated with irreversible blockchain transactions.
This integration further strengthens XRPL's role in the emerging proxy economy. Earlier this year, the network adopted the x402 standard, allowing AI agents to use XRP or Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin payment APIs, AI reasoning, cloud computing, subscriptions and other digital services.
RippleX expects AI-driven activity on the network to also accelerate. Its engineering chief recently predicted that the volume of agent transactions on XRPL could grow from about 1 million currently to 10 million to 100 million in the next few years.
By integrating MasterCard's verifiable intent criteria into the XRPL payment process, companies are equipping AI agents with verifiable authorizations, policy-based spending controls, and automated risk screening, key elements of building a safe, transparent and enterprise-oriented autonomous business.
