Chain foreign exchange gains institutional thrust
Mento Labs and Polygon Labs are teaming up to build a system described as an "institutional-level chain foreign exchange infrastructure." The cooperation starts with a highly liquid USDm/EURm fund pool, targeting the daily euro-dollar trading volume market of approximately US$2 trillion, and strives to get a piece of the pie.
This cooperation relies on Polygon's existing experience in the field of stablecoins. According to the announcement, the network has processed US$11.1 billion in cumulative non-U.S. dollar stablecoins trading volume, which provides a mature foundation for building a predictable and oracle execution trading infrastructure. The mechanism chosen for the cooperation is the Fixed Price Market Maker (FPMM) model, which aims to provide reliable pricing and avoid the historical problem that has deterred institutional trading desks from decentralized platforms due to slippery risks.
Compliant stablecoins as the core
A key design of the partnership is to use $EUROP issued by Schuman Financial as a reserve asset to support $EURm. Schuman Financial holds a stablecoin issuer license issued by the French Prudential Regulation and Disposal Authority (ACPR) under the EU MiCA framework, becoming the first European company to obtain this license in France.$ EUROP is a euro-denominated stablecoin that meets MiCA standards and is convertible to euros on a 1:1 ratio. It is issued by Schuman Financial and regulated by ACPR. Its reserve assets are held in government-regulated EU banks such as Societe Generale and are audited by KPMG. Anchoring $EURm as a fully regulated reserve asset is deliberate and aims to meet compliance requirements and thereby attract the many institutional participants who have had a wait-and-see attitude towards DeFi in the past.
Institutional liquidity from this pool will be introduced through Capa Fi, which was positioned in the announcement to provide professional-level trading depth. The three-party structure-Mento's foreign exchange infrastructure, Polygon's settlement layer, and Schuman's compliant euro stablecoins-is designed to replicate the reliability expected of institutional foreign exchange trading desks on traditional platforms, while enabling on-chain settlement.
Mento claims to be the leading decentralized foreign exchange infrastructure for institutions and individuals, supporting the issuance, trading and on-chain settlement of global currencies. Application scenarios cover cross-border payments, treasury management and institutional settlement. Polygon Labs is dedicated to building and operating blockchain infrastructure for global payments, with its Open Money Stack targeting banks, fintech companies, enterprises and consumer applications.
The USDm/EURm fund pool is only a preliminary attempt, but the partners 'clear goal is to be able to absorb considerable institutional trading volume from a market at a broader on-chain foreign exchange level-which is still mainly under traditional financial standards. In a state of off-chain and decentralized operations.
