Although Strategy's preferred stock STRC closed well below its $100 face value at the end of July, investors were told the August dividend would not increase and remained at 12%. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor posted on social media Saturday to continue promoting STRC as a way to "expand revenue." August will be the second month after shareholders approved the change in semi-annual interest payments, which was approved in June.
STRC shares closed at $89.46 on Friday, a 5.42% increase for the month that began with a dividend increase (50 basis points to 12%) following a poor performance in June. Trading volume on the stock on Nasdaq last Friday was about two-thirds of the average daily trading volume.
STRC shares continued to trade well below the face value of $100 in July.
On Friday, Strategy CEO Phong Le reiterated that management's "corporate goal is to keep STRC trading between $99 and $100 in the long-term" but did not say when investors would expect this goal to be achieved.
Build cash reserves to pay preferred stock dividends
However, Siler hinted on social media on Sunday that the company may announce a change in its Bitcoin treasury position. "Bitcoin Drive is on," he wrote in a post on Platform X, continuing the usual pattern of publishing Strategy bitcoin buying charts from Saylortracker.com at the beginning of each week.
Last week, Strategy reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter, mainly due to the decline in cryptocurrency prices during the quarter, with an unrealized loss of $8.32 billion on its bitcoin holdings.
The Bitcoin treasury company said it has established $3.75 billion in cash reserves to support preferred stock dividends after launching the Bitcoin monetization program. Strategy also said it has established US$3.75 billion in reserves, enough to cover preferred stock dividend payments and interest obligations for more than two years. The company recently bought back $25 million of STRC preferred stock at a price below par and said it plans to continue buying the securities when the share price falls below $100.
