Ripple's latest investment activity sparks more discussion of its traditional financial long-term strategy.
Crypto commentator John Squire pointed out in a tweet that the company has recently invested in financial technology company ZILO, which has partnerships with large financial institutions such as Citi and State Street. He believes Ripple's expanding network of institutional relationships is undermining the long-held view of Bitcoin supporters that XRP will never be practical.
Ripple has just taken another big step.
Ripple has invested in ZILO, a company that has partnered with financial giants such as Citibank and State Street Bank. Bitcoin extremists once said: "No one will use XRP." With every organization-level announcement, that tweet becomes increasingly inappropriate.

Invest in expanding Ripple's institutional strategy
Ripple recently announced a strategic investment in British financial technology companies ZILO and Licuido as part of its overall push into institutional blockchain infrastructure. Licuido focuses on regulated tokenization services, while ZILO develops transfer agency technology for managing investment funds and maintaining official shareholder records.
According to Squire, ZILO's existing partnerships with well-known financial institutions make this investment particularly critical. He pointed out that ZILO has partnered with institutions such as Citibank and State Street Bank, and that Fidelity International is also associated with ZILO through its investment activities. His comments suggest that Ripple is strengthening its position in traditional financial market infrastructure rather than being limited to cross-border payments.
Focus has gone beyond payments
Squire's post emphasized that Ripple's strategy has increasingly gone beyond payment services. Instead, the company appears to be building the infrastructure to support tokenized financial assets and modern investment products that will run based on XRP Ledger.
Transfer agency platforms such as ZILO play an important role in managing fund ownership records, processing transactions, and handling corporate behavior. These services are considered necessary for regulated financial products and will become increasingly important as asset management companies introduce tokenized funds into blockchain networks. The investment follows Aviva Investors just announced the launch of a tokenized fund on the XRP ledger. Combined with Licuido, ZILO provides technology that can support the operational needs of institutional asset tokenization and online fund management.
Squire said institutional adoption continues to grow
The core point of Squire's post is a response to critics who have long believed that financial institutions will not adopt XRP or XRP ledgers. Citing previous remarks by Bitcoin supporters, he wrote that as Ripple announced more institutional cooperation and investment, predictions that "no one will use XRP" are constantly losing credibility.
His remarks point to Ripple's growing involvement in real-world asset tokenization, where XRP ledgers are gradually being positioned as the infrastructure for issuing, managing and settling tokenized assets. In this ecosystem, Ripple's RLUSD stablecoins are designed to promote regulated cash settlements, while XRP and XRP ledgers provide network low-cost transaction processing and rapid settlement capabilities.
Although the cryptocurrency market is still experiencing short-term price fluctuations, Squire's comments suggest Ripple is focusing on expanding its role in traditional financial infrastructure through strategic investments and corporate partnerships.
