Strategy Chairman Michael Siler hinted at another possible increase in Bitcoin through a cryptic chart post, which currently holds approximately $4 billion in cash.
Strategy holds 842,138 BTC units worth approximately US$54.66 billion, but its portfolio faces unrealized losses of approximately US$9.05 billion.
The company sold 1,638 BTC (approximately US$105 million) to buy back STRC shares and pay dividends, and has not directly purchased treasury bitcoins since June.
Siler posted a code post, and the market speculated on a new round of Bitcoin buying.
Strategy Chairman Michael Siler once again hinted at the possibility of a new round of Bitcoin holdings through his latest obscure post on the X platform. According to Siler, the chart on StrategyTracker.com comes with a short title,"Doing Business," but does not provide specific details of the company's plans.
His post attracted attention because Strategy currently has a large amount of cash on hand that could be used for potential capital allocation. The company holds approximately $4 billion in cash, while the Bitcoin price is lower than Strategy's average purchase price.
Strategy has not announced direct purchases of Bitcoin on its company's balance sheet since June. Instead, the company has recently reduced some of its Bitcoin holdings while responding to other financial commitments.
On August 3, Strategy disclosed that it had sold 1,638 BTC units for approximately US$105 million. Management used the funds for STRC share buybacks and dividend payments. However, the deal did not materially reduce Strategy's huge Bitcoin position. The company remains the world's largest publicly owned Bitcoin company.
Thaler also developed a pattern of publishing StrategyTracker charts before and after major treasury activities. As a result, investors pay close attention to the posts for signs of Strategy's next capital allocation decision.
Strategy holds 842,138 BTC and holds US$4 billion in cash
Strategy currently holds 842,138 BTC, valued at approximately US$54.66 billion based on current market prices. Since 2020, the company has completed 113 recorded Bitcoin acquisitions. The average cost of these acquisitions is approximately US$75,653 each. However, the weakening market price of Bitcoin caused Strategy's position to fall below the overall acquisition cost.
As a result, the company currently faces unrealized losses in Bitcoin of approximately $9.05 billion, equivalent to approximately 14.21% of its acquisition cost. At the same time, Strategy's $4 billion cash reserves provide management with considerable flexibility when considering buying Bitcoin again. Lower prices could allow companies to reduce average acquisition costs by adding further holdings.
In addition, Strategy has historically used different financing methods to expand its Bitcoin holdings. Therefore, the recent capital adjustment may provide more room for management to decide on the next treasury operation.
Siler has not clearly confirmed Strategy plans to buy more Bitcoin. Similarly, the company has not announced any new BTC acquisitions in connection with its "doing business" post. Strategy may retain liquidity, fulfill other corporate obligations, or allocate more funds to Bitcoin. If the purchase is confirmed, it will be the first direct purchase of treasury bitcoin since June.
