MicroStrategy sells shares to increase its dollar reserves

Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR, formerly MicroStrategy), led by billionaire entrepreneur Michael Siler, sold 4,818,781 shares of Class A common stock, worth $466.7 million, between July 6 and July 12. The company disclosed the matter in a July 13 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Strategies used the proceeds from the sale of MSTR shares to increase its U.S. dollar reserves by $450 million. Documents show that as of July 12, Strategy's dollar reserves were valued at $3 billion. The company holds this reserve and uses it to pay dividends on its preferred stock and interest on outstanding debt.

However, the company did not buy or sell any bitcoins last week. The number of bitcoins it holds is still 843,775, valued at approximately US$53 billion, and the purchase cost of these bitcoins is approximately US$63.7 billion.

Strategy Company faces book losses due to the collapse of Bitcoin

Although Strategy Company is the world's largest Bitcoin corporate treasury company, it currently holds unrealized book losses of US$10.7 billion in Bitcoin. The past few months have been difficult for the company due to the collapse of Bitcoin. The company was forced to sell Bitcoin this year for the first time since 2022. So far, Strategy has sold bitcoins twice in 2026:

·From May 26 to May 31, it sold 32 bitcoins worth approximately US$2.5 million
·From June 29 to July 5, it sold 3,588 bitcoins worth US$216 million

The market reacted negatively to Strategy's latest announcement to sell MSTR shares, and its share price fell about 5% on July 13, dropping as low as $90.02. As of writing, MSTR was trading at $92.96.
