Key Highlights

Japanese financial services giant SBI and Ondo Finance have reached a strategic cooperation to realize the digital tokenization of Japanese stocks through blockchain technology. This cooperation introduces JPYSC stablecoin as a settlement and collateral tool for qualified transactions. SBI plans to use its vast financial network to distribute these innovative products while broadening market access channels for digital Japanese securities.

Strategic alliance promotes SBI's tokenized asset vision

Under the agreement, Ondo Global Markets will be responsible for creating tokenized financial instruments based on Japanese assets. SBI will then promote these products through its well-established financial distribution channels. The two parties plan to jointly promote the release of these products through joint marketing activities and strategic business relationships.

In addition, this cooperation builds a bridge between Japan's traditional financial assets and the emerging global tokenized market, which is backed by distributed ledger technology. The two parties have not announced a specific product launch timetable, nor have they disclosed the details of the selection of initial tokenized assets and the applicable regulatory framework.

This move strengthens SBI's comprehensive digital asset roadmap covering multiple financial services sectors. At the same time, Ondo Finance gained access to SBI's vast banking network, securities brokerage business, investment management department and cryptocurrency business. This cooperation opens up new distribution channels for the circulation of blockchain-backed securities in Japan's financial sector.

Yen-backed stablecoin enables trading infrastructure

The partnership plans to incorporate JPYSC into Ondo's tokenized financial instruments ecosystem. This stablecoin pegged to the yen will support settlement operations and designated collateral mechanisms. Therefore, transactions involving digitalizing Japanese assets may use a cryptocurrency directly pegged to Japan's national currency.

The two sides also plan to explore more mortgage use cases for JPYSC within the common ecosystem. Specific product qualifications and mortgage parameters have not yet been announced. Both companies acknowledge that further development work is needed to develop operating guidelines.

Ondo emphasized that Japan, with its mature capital market infrastructure, is an important target market for tokenized financial instruments. At the same time, SBI views Ondo as a key long-term partner in expanding the scale of digital asset products. The two sides aim to strengthen links between Japan's domestic financial markets and the global blockchain network.

SBI builds comprehensive blockchain financial infrastructure

Prior to this announcement, SBI has launched a number of blockchain-related projects in the digital finance sector. Previously, SBI Global Asset Management partnered with DigiFT to launch tokenized Japanese equity investment vehicles on the Solana blockchain. The product provides institutional and qualified investors with blockchain-based dividend-focused Japanese equity investment strategies.

JX tokens are DigiFT's first tokenized Japanese equity fund launched in its regulated market. SBI positions the product as a groundbreaking tokenized Japanese equity fund. This release expands the accessibility of blockchain in Japanese stock investment strategies through compliant infrastructure.

The cooperation with Ondo further expands these preliminary measures based on the integration of tokenized financial products and stablecoin settlement functions. In addition to this agreement, SBI also recently launched JPYSC, launched a loan program for the stablecoin, established a partnership with the Solana Foundation, invested in Gauntlet and EDX Markets, and completed the acquisition of Bitbank. These initiatives demonstrate the company's continued commitment to building a unified blockchain financial ecosystem that integrates tokenized assets, digital currencies, trading platforms and decentralized market infrastructure.
