The CLARITY bill enters a critical stage, and Ripple urges the U.S. Senate to pass
A proposed bill aimed at providing a clear regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies-the CLARITY bill, before its August 7 recess, has entered a critical stage in the U.S. Senate. Ripple is urging lawmakers to approve the bill before Congress resumes on August 7.
Legislative push gains momentum
The emergency call comes as President Donald Trump prepares to meet with Republican senators at the White House on Thursday to discuss the progress of the bill. The cryptocurrency industry is closely monitoring these developments and hopes that the talks will speed up the approval process of the CLARITY Act.
The CLARITY Act has become the focus of the cryptocurrency community because of its promise to establish clearly defined rules that have long been missing in the U.S. market. Industry participants believe this clarity is necessary to encourage responsible growth while curbing illegal activities that are often blamed for regulatory uncertainty.
Ripple, Coinbase and industry leaders advocate for reform
Ripple, a U.S. blockchain technology company known for its XRP tokens, emphasized that passing the CLARITY bill will mark a major progress in U.S. cryptocurrency regulation. Ripple's chief legal officer, Stewart Aldrotti, said maintaining the current ambiguous environment was in favor of malicious actors and warned that failure to pass the bill would undermine investor protection and market integrity. "Voting for CLARITY means not voting to maintain regulatory shortcomings that allow lawbreakers to take advantage of. We have seen this situation before and we don't have to repeat it." Aldrotti's comments reflect Ripple's years-long legal battle with the Securities and Exchange Commission over the status of XRP, highlighting the urgent need to gain regulatory clarity through legislation rather than enforcement action.
Lauren Belliver, U.S. public policy director at Ripple, said that the CLARITY bill is crucial to protecting consumers and can make up for loopholes exposed by the lack of appropriate protection for users in the FTX incident. Belliffe further explained that the proposed law would clarify the regulatory responsibilities of the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), while establishing compliance standards in the field of digital assets.
Coinbase, one of the major U.S. cryptocurrency exchanges, also expressed support for the CLARITY bill. Its chief policy officer pointed out that regulators 'attitude towards digital asset regulation is shifting in a more pragmatic direction and emphasized that comprehensive legal clarity must ultimately be shaped by lawmakers. The CLARITY bill has strong support from a number of cryptocurrency industry leaders, who believe that sound written rules will encourage responsible companies to operate in accordance with the law and enhance consumer confidence in the system.
Democratic concerns and negotiations
Despite growing support, the bill still faces a major obstacle in the Senate. Several Democratic senators have called for stricter measures to address possible ethical and conflicts of interest issues arising from public officials 'involvement in the cryptocurrency space before advancing legislation. Senator Tom Tillis said lawmakers are moving closer to consensus, while Senator Cynthia Loomis revealed that a new version of the CLARITY bill will be submitted soon. The discussions mark progress towards a potential agreement, but final details are still being negotiated.
As President Donald Trump talks with senators and all parties continue to work towards compromise, the next few days will be critical to determining whether the CLARITY bill can reach the full Senate vote before Congress adjourns. The outcome of these negotiations may determine the future direction of U.S. cryptocurrency regulation, as industry stakeholders and policymakers struggle to strike a balance between innovation and regulation.
