Increased activity in the Bitcoin (BTC) futures market plays a dominant role in its short-term price movements, which continue to backtrack to areas where leveraged positions are concentrated. Prices tend to tend to where liquidity is most concentrated, and as Bitcoin struggles to hold above $64,000, a review of the current clearing scenario may provide insight into the next move of BTC.
Liquidation heat chart data shows that short positions are concentrated between US$65,500 and US$66,000, which is about 3% away from the current market price. A price break above $65,600 could trigger short positions in the region and could accelerate a larger rise to $67,000.
Below the market price, support is between US$63,500 and US$63,750, with the closest position cluster distance of about 1%; larger liquidity pools are located at US$63,000 -63,250 (down approximately 1.5%) and US$62,500 -62,750 (down approximately 2.3%).
Taken together, long liquidity in the tracking window is almost twice that of short liquidity, which may indicate that most of the leveraged positions accumulated over the past month have not yet been fully closed.
BTC liquidation heat chart, 1-month review.
In the most bearish scenario, there is a broad clearing band around $55,000 (formed during a full month review) that is more prominent on the chart than almost any other area. If the $62,500-$63,750 support level falls, this magnet could become attractive to prices.
Price movements over the past few weeks suggest that Bitcoin may remain volatile in the $60,000 to $67,000 range, and BTC's total open interest and funding rates support this view.
BTC spot and cumulative volume flow.
Although open interest (OI) has fallen more than 3% from Tuesday's peak, BTC prices have barely moved, and spot and futures flows have tilted towards buyers over the past week as funding rates cooled to neutral levels.
