Truth Social launches a paid API to monetize presidential influence
TMTG, the operator of Truth Social, announced on Thursday that it will launch a paid API service to provide Wall Street organizations with extremely low-latency access to platform posts. The data stream is specifically designed for algorithmically traded funds, and Donald Trump's posts often trigger market fluctuations. How far can this act of monetizing the president's influence go?
Quick overview of key points
TMTG launches the Truth API, a paid and authorized data stream that provides organizations with direct machine-readable copies of Truth Social's most influential posts, including Trump's.
This access will be available to institutional clients starting from August 1, 2026, and high-frequency trading and algorithmic trading funds will enjoy priority.
Kevin McGurn, interim CEO of TMTG, said the move is aimed at stopping illegal data grabbing and generating high-margin recurring income.
Truth Social becomes a data source for traders
Truth Social, long regarded as a politically oriented social platform, is gradually evolving into a market infrastructure. Its operator Trump Media has designed the Truth API to push posts that are most likely to cause price fluctuations in real time in a format that can be directly used by trading algorithms. The move is part of a diversification strategy, and the cryptocurrency business has dragged down Trump Media's books, prompting the group to seek new sources of revenue.
The product is mainly targeted at high-frequency trading companies and algorithm funds, which require extremely low-latency, direct machine-readable data streams. Trump Media said the data stream will be available to institutional customers starting August 1, 2026. The group positions its platform as a source of high-quality information, distinguishing it from free and unauthorized data streams.
"The market has been volatile by Truth Social posts," TMTG interim CEO Kevin McGurn said in a statement.
"The Truth API provides a direct, authorized, real-time data stream covering the Truths that are most likely to impact the market, while advancing our strategy of monetizing our proprietary assets through high-margin recurring income."
Presidential posts have influenced prices many times
Donald Trump's posts on Truth Social have influenced financial markets many times. The latest example cited by the group involved posts related to his ongoing conflicts between Iran and the United States, events that triggered significant fluctuations in oil and Bitcoin. The company is trying to transform this reality into a saleable product.
The platform also has other high-profile accounts that may provide content for data streams, such as Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel. As a result, the value of the product lies more in the concentration of influence than in the amount of information: just a few posts are enough to trigger large-scale arbitrage in seconds.
From a regulatory perspective, the problem goes far beyond the data itself. Priority access to information that may affect prices raises fairness issues between investors with access to the data stream and investors who are excluded. Regulators may need to review this new type of information monopoly.
Group windfall, precedent for Social networks
This move marks a step towards the direct commercialization of political influence. By selling authorized and structured data streams, Trump Media hopes to turn proprietary assets into high-margin recurring income, a model that is particularly favored by financial data publishers. The group thus entered the logic that professional terminal providers have proven feasible.
However, the company still needs to persuade users to use the payment channel. "Some companies have tried to obtain data from Truth Social through scraping, which violates the terms of use," McGurn told CNN.
"We will create many obstacles for those who do not access data directly through us."
In addition to commercial aspects, the move also sets a precedent: Social networks can now profit from market expectations generated by their most influential users. As regulators watched, the line between public communication and privileged information was being redefined.
In short, as Washington redefines the digital asset framework, the Truth API transforms the president's influence into standardized financial products. Three catalysts converge here: funds 'desire for algorithmic trading, volatility triggered by political announcements, and the regulation the CLARITY Act intends to impose on the industry. The line between communication and privileged information has just taken another step back.
