Has Bitcoin hit bottom? The cryptocurrency market is once again hotly discussing whether
Bitcoin has hit the bottom, which has once again become the focus of heated debate in the cryptocurrency market. Recently, some cryptocurrency trading platforms announced that they would stop operating, and comments appeared on social media that "exchanges are closed and the bottom is here." However, João Wederson, founder of analyst firm Alphractal, pointed out that this view lacks data support and warns investors to be wary of such popular claims.
Wederson said on his social account that many analysts have recently displayed the closed cryptocurrency exchange logo alongside the bottom point of the Bitcoin chart and packaged it into a reliable market indicator. However, he believes that the available data does not support this assertion.
Why does Wade disagree?
According to data shared by Wederson, there are only nine cryptocurrency exchanges and trading platforms that will cease operations or announce closure in 2026. He pointed out that this was the lowest level in the past eight years and compared the current situation with previous market cycles.
Wederson wrote in a sharing: "I have seen too much panic recently. Analysts have placed the sign of a failed cryptocurrency exchange with the bottom of Bitcoin, claiming that the exchange closure is a reliable bottom signal. However, the data presents a completely different picture."
In his view, it is inaccurate to assert that Bitcoin has hit a bottom just because the exchange is closed. Because more platforms have stopped operating in the past cycle, but this does not always mean that the market has bottomed out.
Wederson also emphasized that data is the most important means of testing many seemingly true assumptions in the market, commenting: "Data reveals facts, not stories. It eliminates assumptions that lack support and inferences that analysts often present as facts."
Another noteworthy detail in the chart is that the number of platforms closed in 2025 is 12, compared with only 9 so far in 2026. Wederson believes that this data does not support the widely circulated statement on social media that "exchanges are closed and Bitcoin hits bottom."
What does a closed platform mean?
The recent succession of platform closures is one of the reasons why the discussion at the bottom of Bitcoin is heating up again. Well-known platforms such as BitMEX, AscendEX and BitMart have announced that they will terminate operations. There is also news that Odos will cease service on July 30, and Dango, known as the "Exchange of the End", also announced that it will close its first blockchain network on August 13.
Meanwhile, decentralized cloud storage company Storj Labs has voluntarily filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection application with the U.S. bankruptcy court. These developments have reinforced some investors 'expectations that the bear market is coming to an end.
Why do analysts have different opinions?
There is no consensus in the market on the signal sent by the closure of cryptocurrency exchanges. Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee pointed out that similar events in past market cycles often occurred near the bottom, so recent developments can be seen as a positive sign.
Simon Dedic, founder of Moonrock Capital, interpreted the closure of the centralized exchange as a bullish signal. He believes that in a bear market, unsustainable business models will be eliminated, leaving behind stronger companies.
Ivan Liljeqvist, who is known as "Ivan on Tech" in the cryptocurrency field, also said on social media: "The old will not go, and the new will not come."
What does grayscale investment pay attention to?
On the other hand, Gray Investment believes that Bitcoin has deviated from the traditional four-year market cycle. The asset management company pointed out that Bitcoin prices are no longer affected by only halving cycles as in the past. Macroeconomic developments such as economic growth, real interest rates, and the Federal Reserve's monetary policy have become more significant in their impact on prices.
This view supports the view that a single indicator such as exchange closures may not be enough to determine whether the market has bottomed out.
What do Doctor Profit and Martinez think?
Despite different views on whether Bitcoin has hit bottom, some analysts still view the current price range as an opportunity for long-term investors. Doctor Profit defined the $54,000 to $64,000 range as a strong buying area in previous analysis and believed that investors should adopt a batch buying strategy rather than trying to capture a precise bottom.
Ali Martinez said that Bitcoin's Sharp ratio has fallen back to levels seen at the end of the past bear market. He believes that this indicator is similar to the period when seller pressure weakens and the accumulation phase begins.
Has Bitcoin hit bottom?
The recent platform shutdown has reignited discussions about whether Bitcoin has hit the bottom. However, data shared by João Wederson shows that exchange closures alone cannot determine whether the market has bottomed out.
At the same time, industry celebrities such as Tom Lee, Gray Capital, Doctor Profit and Ali Martinez have proposed multiple scenarios for Bitcoin's current prospects by emphasizing different indicators. This shows that investors should not rely on a single indicator, but should comprehensively evaluate on-chain data, macroeconomic development and market dynamics.
