XRP holders often discuss whether 1,000, 10,000, or even 100,000 tokens will ultimately be enough to support retirement? The answer depends on a factor far more uncertain than the number of tokens-the XRP price must reach a certain goal, and the holder needs to hold a sufficient number of tokens until that goal is achieved.
Matthew Perry recently discussed this issue on his YouTube channel. His calculations targeted a $1 million portfolio for retirement, and then back-deduced several possible XRP price predictions. Results ranged from 26,000 XRPs to 200,000 XRPs. However, these numbers rely on ambitious future prices that are well above current XRP prices.
Matthew Perry sets $1 million as XRP retirement goal
Matthew Perry's calculations are based on a $1 million retirement portfolio. A 2026 Northwest Mutual study found that Americans believe they need about $1.46 million to retire comfortably, but Perry used a lower number to simplify the calculations. Under the widely cited 4% withdrawal rule, a $1 million portfolio could theoretically provide $40,000 per year. Actual retirement needs still depend on the cost of living, taxes, debt, medical expenses, place of residence and the length of retirement.
When Perry recorded the video, XRP was trading for about $1.05. He reported that the market value at the time was US$66.21 billion, transaction volume was US$1.36 billion, and the circulation supply was approximately 62.5 billion tokens. If you wanted to buy enough XRPs at the time for $1.05 to immediately create $1 million, you would need to hold nearly 952,000 tokens. Perry believes this is not a practical strategy. His calculations assume that someone now buys a smaller amount of XRP and waits for its price to rise significantly.
Future XRP price targets will vary significantly in the number of tokens required
Perry studied several hypothetical XRP price targets between 2027 and 2035. For each scenario, the $1 million target is divided by the expected XRP price. His estimates are roughly as follows:
2027: Assuming the price of XRP is US$5, 200,000 XRPs are needed, and the purchase cost around US$1.10 is approximately US$220,000.
2028: Assuming the XRP price is US$9, 111,000 XRPs are needed, and the cost is approximately US$122,000.
2029: Assuming the XRP price is US$15, 67,000 XRPs are needed, and the cost is approximately US$73,000.
2030: Assuming the XRP price is US$28, 36,000 XRPs are needed, and the cost is approximately US$39,000.
2030 to 2032: Assuming the XRP price is US$24, 42,000 XRPs are needed and the cost is approximately US$46,000.
2030 - 2034: Assuming an XRP price of $32, 31,000 XRPs would be needed, costing approximately $34,000. [TAG 20]2035: Assuming an XRP price of $38, 26,000 XRPs would be needed, costing approximately $29,000.
These numbers represent mathematical scenarios rather than guaranteed results. If XRP reaches $38, the value of 26,000 tokens will be close to $1 million. However, XRP needs to rise more than 3400% from prices around $1.10. If the circulating supply remains near current levels, the valuation required will also be huge. This makes adoption rates, market liquidity, regulation and Ripple's business progress key parts of the calculation.
Matthew Perry believes it is more flexible to hold 50,000 XRPs.
Matthew Perry believes that theoretically, if the XRP price reaches US$38, 26,000 XRPs can generate US$1 million. But his personal estimate prefers 50,000 coins because many holders may have sold some of their positions before reaching their maximum target. After generating huge returns, holding positions can become emotionally difficult. A person who puts in $29,000 may decide to sell when the value reaches $200,000 or $500,000. If XRP later rises to $38, selling half of the tokens will reduce the number of tokens available. Therefore, Perry proposed three broad XRP holdings: approximately 26,000 XRPs could reach $1 million at $38; approximately 50,000 XRPs could leave room for partial sales; and approximately 200,000 XRPs could reach $1 million at $5.
The estimated XRP price target required for 200,000 tokens is the lowest, but purchased at a price around $1.10 at a cost of approximately $220,000. The estimated 26,000 tokens requires much less initial capital, but relies on the XRP price to reach a much more demanding level. No single number can guarantee a comfortable retirement. People with low spending and no debt may need less than $1 million. People with higher expenses or longer retirements may need much more money.
The practicality of XRP is the basis for Perry's bullish expectations
Perry linked his views on the XRP price outlook to Ripple's role in cross-border payments and the broader XRP ledger ecosystem. He pointed out that Ripple reportedly has partnerships with more than 300 financial institutions, is in ongoing discussions with governments, and has the potential to become a public company. If payment activity creates direct demand for tokens, then broader payment use may support XRP. Ripple's business growth will not automatically lead to an equal increase in XRP prices, because Ripple and XRP, although related, are still different entities.
Supply is also important. The total supply of XRP is close to 100 billion units, which means that extremely high prices require a very large network valuation. As a result, an XRP price of $100 or $1000 would require much more capital than the current market. Perry believes a target below $100 is more realistic than claims involving $10,000 or $100,000. Even his lower forecast requires large-scale adoption and a stronger crypto market.
Previous XRP price outlook forecasts point to lower medium-term targets
An earlier article reviewed the XRP price outlook for the next 6 to 12 months. XRP is currently trading at close to $1.07 and has a market value of approximately $67.93 billion. Recent XRP market readings include: a 24-hour increase of 2.61%, a 7-day decline of 3.96%, a 30-day increase of 3.69%, a one-year decline of 65.62%, a drop of about 72% from the historical high. Judging from the XRP chart, support is above $0.90 and near the $1 area. After the XRP retreated from a 90-day high near $1.47, resistance remained between $1.40 and $1.50.
Earlier forecasts suggested three possible scenarios:
bearish scenario: weak macro conditions, regulatory issues or loss of support near $1, XRP price could be between $0.70 and $0.95. [TAG[43] Baseline scenario: Market stability, Ripple adoption, and no major legal setbacks, XRP prices may range from $0.90 to $1.80. [TAG Bullish scenario: Active regulation, payments growth, and increased demand for altcoins, XRP prices could range from $1.80 to $2 +.
None of these mid-term scenarios comes close to Perry's retirement goals. XRP first needs to regain the range of $1.40 to $1.50 before the area below $2 may become a realistic chart target. Perry's calculations show that the number of XRP tokens needed for retirement cannot be considered separately from future XRP prices. Someone may need to own 200,000 XRPs for $5, or 26,000 XRPs for just $38. The challenge is whether XRP can reach these prices and whether holders can retain enough tokens throughout the process.
FAQs
Will XRP reach US$1000? XRP reaching $1000 is mathematically and economically unreasonable. This would require a market valuation of about $60 trillion, twice the U.S. GDP and far more than the entire global equity and crypto markets combined.
How high can XRP rise in 2026? Most mainstream cryptocurrency analysts predict that by the end of 2026, XRP will trade at a price between $2.00 and $4.00, with a bullish target of up to $4.94, while conservative estimates hover around $1.50 to $2.00.
