US-listed spot bitcoin ETFs had a net inflow of US$626 million in the first three trading days of August

In the first three trading days of August, US-listed spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) net inflows totaled US$626 million, of which US$244.4 million flowed in a single day on Wednesday, bringing this wave to a successful end.

Key Points

Spot Bitcoin ETF recorded a total net inflow of US$626 million in the first three trading days of August, of which US$244.4 million was inflow in a single day on Wednesday.

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust contributed approximately US$479 million, bringing its cumulative net inflow to nearly US$61 billion.

Ethereum Fund had a net inflow of US$114.6 million in two days, while XRP products broke the record of no redemption for four consecutive trading days, with a net outflow of US$3.58 million.

Bitcoin ETF inflows rebounded after selling off in July.

On August 3, the net inflow of funds in this category was US$170.1 million. 7 of the 12 listed products on the day attracted funds, and none of them were redeemed. Another $211.49 million was recorded on Tuesday. Wednesday's $244.4 million brought the three-day total to approximately $626 million, which has exceeded the total inflow for the entire month of July.

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust contributed most of the funds, accumulating approximately US$479 million during this period. Since the fund began trading in January 2024, its cumulative net inflow has reached nearly US$61 billion. Fidelity's FBTC lags far behind, ranking second.

On Wednesday, Bitcoin traded at close to $64,700, up less than 1% in the past 24 hours, and the entire cryptocurrency market has a market value of approximately $2.29 trillion. However, market sentiment did not improve accordingly. The Cryptocurrency Fear and Greed Index fell to 25, in the "extreme fear" range, falling further from 27 the previous day.

ETF fund flows between Ethereum and XRP diverge

Spot Ethereum funds recorded positive inflows for the second consecutive trading day, with net inflows of US$60.9 million on Wednesday, totaling US$114.6 million in the two days. Spot XRP products went in the opposite direction, with a net outflow of US$3.58 million, breaking the previous record of no redemption in five funds for four consecutive trading days.

Money flow data is important because redemptions force custodians to sell Bitcoin on the open market, turning investors 'exits into mechanical sell-offs regardless of what individual traders think of the price. Inflows, on the contrary, see daily data as a rough indicator of regulated funds entering the asset. Concentration of funds in one issuer remains an obvious limitation.

Bitcoin ETF fund flows in recent months

have experienced a dismal period before the August recovery. Hashdex said this week that it will liquidate its spot bitcoin funds after August 17, the first U.S. spot bitcoin ETF to close since the fund category was launched two and a half years ago.

The combined net outflow of the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF exceeded US$8 billion in May and June. In June alone, Bitcoin prices fell from their peak of approximately US$126,000 in October 2025, resulting in redemptions of approximately US$4.5 billion. July turned positive, the first positive growth month since April. The fund class still holds approximately US$78 billion in net assets, with a cumulative net inflow of approximately US$51.5 billion, a digital gold fund that took several years to reach.
