Shibburn issues security warning to SHIB holders
Shibburn, a community platform that tracks the destruction of Shiba Inu coins, issued a security warning to holders of the Ethereum address 0x95ad61b0a 150d 79219dcf 64e1e6cc 01f0b64c4ce, reminding them to treat with caution any unsolicited wallet requests. The warning focuses particularly on requests that require users to approve permissions or sign transactions. Shibburn emphasized that seemingly regular interactions can hide complex rights requests, exposing users to unexpected risks from decentralized applications (dApps). In other words, a seemingly simple transaction may grant an application access far beyond its intended purpose without the user's knowledge.
Basics: What to Pay Attention to
This warning covers several core safety principles. In a separate message, Shibburn reiterated standard wallet security tips, warning the SHIB community not to disclose private keys or mnemonics. These credentials provide full access to the wallet and should not be entered into any third-party website or shared with others under any circumstances. Users should also be wary of unsolicited transaction tips.
Strengthen wallet security measures
The security of Shiba Inu wallets can be enhanced through some practical measures, such as enabling two-factor authentication on all cryptocurrency-related accounts. For large positions, hardware wallets provide an additional layer of security, while regular security audits of connected applications can help discover vulnerabilities before they are exploited.
Warning issued in a year when DeFi security faces serious challenges
The recommendation comes at a time when the entire cryptocurrency and DeFi space is facing severe security pressures. In April 2026 alone, hackers stole more than $635 million through 28 independent attacks, setting a new monthly record. The total loss since 2026 has exceeded $840 million. The two largest DeFi attacks in 2026 occurred in just 18 days: an approximately $285 million attack on Drift Protocol on Solana on April 1 and an approximately $292 million attack on Kelp DAO on April 18.
It is worth noting that three of the four major security incidents in 2026 did not involve any defective lines of code. The smart contract operates exactly as it is programmed, but the attacker provides it with fraudulent instructions through illegally obtained access rights. This highlights that vigilance at the user level-such as carefully reviewing wallet requests and protecting private keys-is as important as security at the protocol level.
Fraud is a common phenomenon in the cryptocurrency field. Chainalysis data shows that such fraud is growing across the board and affects not just Shiba Inu coins. For SHIB holders, Shibburn's message is clear: pause before approving any wallet request that you didn't initiate, and never share your mnemonic words with anyone.
