Ether.fi adds tokenized asset trading and portfolio loan functions

Ether.fi is a decentralized financial platform famous for its Ethereum pledge. It has now added tokenized asset trading, portfolio mortgage loans and fiat account functions in self-managed applications.

Ether.fi announced on Thursday that users can now trade tokenized stocks, metals and crypto assets through its app. The platform integrates Aave, a decentralized lending protocol based on the Ethereum expansion network Optimism, which allows users to lend assets or borrow money against their investment portfolio (without selling positions), and send or consume the proceeds. The new fiat account supports global deposits and withdrawals.

"We initially supported existing assets, as well as some tokenized stocks and gold." said Mike Silagadze, founder and CEO of Ether.fi These existing assets include Ethereum, Bitcoin, Hyperliquid and Ether.fi's native governance token ETHFI. Silagadze added: "We will soon start adding more assets as collateral."

Ether.fi stated that users who complete the authentication required for their payment cards will be able to use fiat accounts. Deposits and withdrawals vary according to circumstances.

Ether.fi has also launched an automatic repurchase mechanism for ETHFI and provides a 3% cash refund for purchases made with its payment card. The company claims to have more than 500,000 members and annual transactions of US$2 billion.

Silagadze believes that portfolio mortgages and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) have the potential to attract users who have not yet embarked on decentralized finance.

"I think being able to borrow against the entire portfolio and being able to recycle RWA would be very popular." "In addition, getting cash back on transactions and borrowings can cause some stir, I think," he said.

The new features are open to new and existing users of Ether.fi, but tokenized stocks and metals trading are not available in the U.S. and some other markets.

Silagadze said the expanded platform aims to provide users with alternatives to traditional banks.

Silagadze said: "With ether.fi, we are closing the gap between decentralized finance and daily financial needs. Our goal is to replace traditional banks and give most users access to tools and benefits previously available only to institutions and high-net-worth individuals. This is the power of DeFi and self-hosting."
