Ethereum developers are currently reviewing 66 proposals to delineate the scope for the next major upgrade to Hegotá, with many of them committed to bringing more privacy features into the protocol. Currently, FOCIL is the only Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) included in the upgrade plan. In addition, Ethereum Foundation contributor Toni Wahrstätter wrote in an X post on Sunday that Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), Keyed Nanges (EIP-8250), and Recent Roots for Frame Transactions (EIP-8272) should also be included to "unlock native privacy features so that private applications can run without relying on intermediaries."

FOCIL is an abbreviation for "Fork-choice enforced inclusion lists" and is designed to allow a committee of validators to force pending transactions into blocks, thereby making the network more censory-resistant. Other proposals provide protocol primitives for privacy applications.

Core developers plan to launch the Hegotá upgrade next year. The next Ethereum Core Developers Conference will largely shape the development trajectory of Ethereum in 2027. Proposals that fail to be selected in Hegotá may be reconsidered in subsequent upgrades. The next Ethereum developer conference is scheduled to be held at 22:00 Beijing time on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ethereum developers are preparing to be the first to launch Glamstam-perhaps one of the most influential upgrades this year. According to Ethereum's public roadmap, Glamstam aims to improve scalability, strengthen the first-layer network, and make the network easier to use, with the main network expected to go online in the second half of 2026.
