Ripple destroys US$35.7 million in RLUSD on XRP Ledger, with a monthly destruction rate of 99%
This month, Ripple performed the treasury destruction of US$35.7 million in RLUSD tokens on XRP Ledger (XRPL), highlighting the unusual pattern of activity on the stablecoin chain. In the past 30 days, the company has issued RLUSD worth $449.3 million directly on the native XRPL blockchain.
Redemptions drive near-full monthly destruction
During the same period, institutional customers launched a series of intensive RLUSD redemptions, which quickly resulted in the destruction of $448.9 million in tokens. This process resulted in a monthly destruction rate of up to 99%, pushing the net supply growth of RLUSD on XRPL to near zero.
Ripple is a blockchain technology company known for its global payment network and XRP digital assets. Its RLUSD stablecoin is designed to improve settlement efficiency, especially in cross-network scenarios.
Although the trading volume of RLUSD on XRPL showed sharp daily fluctuations, the Ethereum network showed a relatively slow and continuous accumulation trend-in the past month, most redemptions and demolitions were concentrated on Ripple's native chain.
RLUSD News: Comparison between XRPL and Ethereum
Fund flows on XRP Ledger mainly serve high-speed trading purposes: RLUSD tokens are frequently minted to facilitate settlement and are quickly destroyed when converted into legal tender. In contrast, the RLUSD version on Ethereum has become the center of long-term liquidity retention and decentralized finance (DeFi) activity.
In the past 30 days, US$403 million of RLUSD was issued on Ethereum, US$177.3 million was destroyed, and net inflows exceeded US$225 million. This is in sharp contrast to the highly dynamic but nearly neutral overall net supply on the XRPL.
The current total circulating supply of RLUSD is US$1.757 billion. Liquidity is almost equally divided between the two blockchains: XRPL holds US$883 million (50.2%) and Ethereum holds US$874 million (49.8%).
The specific data are as follows: XRP Ledger's circulation supply is US$883 million, accounting for 50.2%; Ethereum's circulation supply is US$874 million, accounting for 49.8%.
The latest data shows that institutional participants mainly use XRPL infrastructure for real-time, high-capacity exchanges, and funds can be quickly moved in and out. In contrast, RLUSD deployment on Ethereum has become the preferred tool for holding the token in the DeFi space.
The removal of US$35.7 million from circulation does not indicate a weakening of market interest in RLUSD, but reflects operational reliance on XRPL's immediate settlement capabilities, while Ethereum serves as the preferred network for long-term holding strategies.
These models reveal RLUSD's dual-chain operating strategy. The destruction reflects Ripple's approach to supply management between XRP Ledger and Ethereum, with each chain supporting the different liquidity needs of its user groups.
This divergence in the use of tokens highlights the evolution of stablecoins adoption in institutional finance and decentralized markets-users tend to choose the infrastructure that best suits their needs.
