ZEC Zcash prices have risen by 7.2% in the past 24 hours, and the network upgrade vote has attracted attention.
Zcash holders voted to shorten the block generation time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, thereby accelerating block production. Despite adjusting the block time, the community still chose to keep Zcash's Bitcoin-like halving mechanism. On September 16, Zcash prices climbed as the community reviewed the main voting results for the upcoming NU7 network upgrade. In the latest trading day, ZEC rose about 6%, trading between $1,180 and $1,190.
The vote attracted an unusually high level of participation, with approximately 2.4 million ZECs participating, while the total number of eligible tokens was approximately 3.6 million. This accounted for approximately two-thirds of the supply available at the time of the voting snapshot.
Zcash holders shorten block time by two-thirds
About 99.9% of voting ZECs support reducing the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Blocks are transaction batches added to the chain, so this change will shorten the average wait time for first confirmation. The proposal speeds up the interval while adjusting to keep the overall circulation rate stable during calendar time.
Holders also sent clear signals on monetary policy. About 98.9% voted to keep Zcash's existing Bitcoin-like halving mechanism, which halves miners 'rewards at fixed intervals. A smoother, progressive approach to reducing the way new ZECs are created has little support.
