Bitcoin broke through US$64,000, but room for growth was limited

Bitcoin prices broke through US$64,000 after U.S. CPI and PPI data were weaker than expected. However, further gains were limited as both long-term and short-term investors sold off.

Although Bitcoin, Ethereum and altcoins all rose, US banking giant Morgan Stanley made noteworthy remarks. An analyst at the bank compared Solana to Ethereum, the largest altcoin, and pointed out that historically, Solana is a better diversified investment vehicle than Ethereum.

Danny Galindo, investment strategist at Morgan Stanley, said in an interview with CoinDesk that Solana has historically been a better diversified asset than Ethereum. Galindo pointed out that with the rise of spot Bitcoin ETFs, followed by Ethereum and Solana ETFs, the issue of which digital assets investors should include in their portfolios in addition to Bitcoin has become prominent.

Galindo also stated that as of April 2026, the correlation coefficient between Bitcoin and Ethereum is 0.78, while the correlation coefficient between Bitcoin and Solana is 0.72, which indicates that Bitcoin has a lower correlation with Solana. According to analysts, this means that Solana is slightly less likely to move in the same direction as Bitcoin. The lower correlation suggests that Solana is more likely to fluctuate independently of Bitcoin and therefore contributes more to portfolio diversification.

The analyst also pointed out that Solana's correlation with the S & P 500 index is also slightly lower than Bitcoin and Ethereum. Based on these historical correlations, Galindo concluded that Solana may be more suitable as a diversified investment vehicle than Ethereum. However, analysts also pointed out that Solana's price volatility is higher than Ethereum, and investors should consider this risk factor when evaluating its diversification advantages.
