Ondo Finance has partnered with Japan's SBI Group to bring Japanese stocks into blockchain

Ondo Finance has reached a partnership with Japan's SBI Group to bring Japanese stocks into blockchain and use SBI's yen stablecoin for settlement. The agreement will provide SBI customers with a way to purchase Japanese stocks via blockchain.

The partnership unites a U.S. -based tokenization company with one of Japan's largest financial companies to directly move an important Asian capital market onto the chain and settle it in yen rather than U.S. dollars.

Partnership brings mutual benefit and win-win results

According to the cooperation statement, Ondo Global Markets (BVI) Limited will issue tokenized Japanese assets. SBI will then distribute the tokens through its network covering banking, securities and insurance businesses, which allegedly has millions of customers.

The two companies will use SBI's yen stablecoin JPYSC as a settlement and collateral asset for Ondo's tokenized products. At the same time, the two parties will also promote each other's products through their respective customer channels and strategic partners.

This arrangement is expected to achieve mutual benefit: it not only opens the door to Japanese assets for global investors, but also introduces Ondo's tokenized products to domestic investors in Japan.

SBI and Ondo promote yen stablecoin

SBI launched the JPYSC stablecoin on June 24, which is Japan's first yen stablecoin backed by trust banks. The stablecoin was issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank with an initial capital of 10 billion yen and mainly runs on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Financial Services Agency of Japan is responsible for overseeing regulations that allow SBI to issue the stablecoin through its own funds rather than offshore entities.

Japanese users have been reluctant to use U.S. dollar stablecoins such as USDT or USDC to trade, while JPYSC allows them to trade in their own currency.

Executive Opinion

Ondo CEO Ian De Bode linked the partnership to Japan's position in global finance. He said: "Japan is one of the most mature capital markets in the world and SBI is at its core. This cooperation opens the way for bringing Japanese assets onto the chain and connecting Japan with the global tokenized economy."

Yoshitaka Kitao, Chairman and CEO of SBI Holdings, said Ondo is very aligned with SBI's digital asset strategy. He said: "Ondo Finance has become a global leader in real-world asset tokenization and is at the forefront of the tokenized stock market. We believe that Ondo will become a key strategic partner as SBI Group builds a global digital asset corridor."

SBI holds more than US$250 billion in assets and previously worked with Chainlink in 2025 to bring traditional assets to the chain. JPYSC stablecoins have helped the Japanese financial company consolidate its chain efforts with its own settlement currency.
