Another Swiss bank has incorporated cryptocurrency into its regular banking applications

Ticino State Bank officially launched a regulated crypto asset service

BancaStato, a state bank in the Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino in Switzerland, has joined Sygnum's business-to-business banking platform and began to provide crypto asset services.

Through this integration, BancaStato customers can purchase, sell and hold four types of crypto assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Solana, through the bank's existing web and mobile banking applications.

This move makes BancaStato the first bank in Avaloq's software-as-a-service environment to allow customers to purchase, hold and sell crypto assets directly within its e-banking platform through Sygnum's API.

Transactions are executed through Sygnum's B2B API without the need for an additional order management system, which the companies say reduces operational complexity and supports flexible risk control.

Account holders can execute market orders based on dollar amounts or asset quantities within their standard digital banking interface.

Customer assets are stored on the Sygnum organization-level escrow platform, which includes multiple security layers, governance controls, and independent audits. In addition, these assets are not included in BancaStato's balance sheet and can provide additional legal protection to customers should the bank face bankruptcy.

Sygnum B2B network expands to target the EU market

With this launch, BancaStato has become the latest institution to join the Sygnum B2B banking platform, which currently serves more than 25 banks and financial institutions.

Sygnum said its partner bank has enabled more than one-third of Switzerland's population to use digital asset services.

This timing also has significance outside Switzerland.

Sygnum holds a Swiss banking license and has obtained a cryptographic asset service provider license issued by the Liechtenstein Financial Markets Authority since June 30, 2026 in accordance with the EU Cryptographic Asset Market Regulation Act.

This allows Sygnum Europe to access the EU single market through passport right-of-way, and its Liechtenstein office is positioned as the gateway to the EU's major economies.

Most of the more than 5000 banks in Europe have not yet provided digital asset services because of the high cost, expertise and resources required to build and maintain the necessary infrastructure, and Sygnum is positioning itself to fill this gap through its plug-and-play B2B model.

Fritz Jost, Chief B2B Officer at Sygnum, noted that "there is a growing demand for regulated, API-based digital asset services that can be integrated directly into existing core banking systems."
