Uniswap Labs launches license pool on V4, leading compliance innovation

Uniswap Labs officially launched the license pool on its Uniswap v4 platform on July 23, 2026, a groundbreaking initiative. The upgrade introduces an open source framework that aims to embed compliance access for regulated tokenized financial products directly onto the chain. Eligible users can seamlessly trade securities, stocks and other regulated assets through automated market makers to ensure compliance at the source.

How does the license pool work?

The introduction of these pools marks the entry of Uniswap into a new era of compliance, embedding the issuer controlled whitelist into the core of the protocol. Before trading or providing liquidity, smart contracts ensure that only verified wallets that appear on the issuer's managed list gain access. This strategy effectively blocks transactions from unauthorized addresses and provides a strict barrier to meeting regulatory needs.

It is worth noting that this system does not change the operating mechanism of regular v4 pools-unless otherwise specified, these pools remain open and unregulated. Issuers can decide at their discretion whether to apply authentication and other checks based on asset compliance requirements, allowing them to flexibly choose between standard and restricted pool structures.

Uniswap does not participate in managing whitelists or processing wallet authorizations, and these responsibilities are entirely borne by the issuer. This ensures accountability and allows compliance strategies to be developed tailored to the regulatory obligations of different assets.

Each license pool enforces identity and access requirements internally, which means compliance checks for regulated assets are handled by the protocol itself, rather than through a public-facing interface.

Which institutions are involved?

Well-known partners Superstate, Securitize and Dowgo played key roles in the license pool project. Superstate, which focuses on tokenized stocks and funds, has partnered with Uniswap to promote on-chain participation in regulated financial activities, while Securitize, known for its digital physical assets, is committed to ensuring its technology is compatible with the new protocol.

Dowgo made a unique proposal to introduce the ERC-3643 standard, aiming to strengthen the on-chain identity mechanism for asset supervision. The proposal requires the necessary authorizations from European regulators.

ERC-3643 supports authentication and transfer restrictions for digital assets. License pools improve security by embedding identity agreements and regulatory compliance directly in smart contracts. Cooperation with key fintech companies ensures alignment with existing industry standards.

Uniswap pointed out that forecasts show that the tokenized asset market could surge to US$11 trillion by the end of the decade. Despite the optimistic outlook, as of May 2026, the total amount of tokenized assets has reached US$34 billion, setting a good start for achieving these ambitious goals. The licensed trading environment aims to combine decentralized markets with regulatory frameworks to create a space that is both regulated and vibrant for global assets.
