Another Ethereum whale sells

Another big Ethereum player disarmed and left the market

Online data shows that a whale user deposited 3,128 ETH in Coinbase in a single transaction, and completely cleared his position after losing 40%. The wallet purchased these tokens at a cost of approximately US$5.95 million about six months ago. When it was cleared, the market value had dropped to approximately US$2.08 million, and the actual loss exceeded US$3.87 million.

Common scenarios for Ethereum holders in 2026

This round of exits is part of a broader wave of capitulation by Ethereum investors this year. Ethereum has fallen by more than 30% in 2026, pushing asset prices below the average entry point for major institutional holders, including whale and ETF investors. For many buyers who entered during a strong market period, such a deep correction makes it increasingly difficult to continue holding.

Whale Wallet, which holds more than 1000 ETH units, has been reducing its holdings since the end of 2025. As ETH falls below US$2000, some buyers have fallen into floating losses. The behavior of transferring a single block to Coinbase is in line with the characteristics of direct clearance rather than phased exit, indicating that sellers put speed ahead of price optimization.

Signal of large-scale ETH inflow into exchanges

When large wallets transfer tokens in bulk to centralized exchanges, analysts often view it as a signal of imminent selling pressure. A surge in exchange inflows often means traders move assets to increase selling activity. This single transaction deposit completely eliminated the ambiguity of intention.

However, not all big players are leaving. Between May 1 and 29, Sanitation data showed that the supply of Ethereum held in non-exchange whale wallets increased from 124.15 million units to 125.17 million units, a net increase of more than 1 million units-worth more than $2 billion at current prices, although ETH fell by about 12% over the same period. The market is still divided between those who cut meat and leave and those who take bargains.
