StarkWare, co-founded by Ben-Sasson, reported in August on an anti-quantum transaction experiment on the Bitcoin main network. This experimental method runs without changing the Bitcoin consensus rules, providing researchers with a practical test of possible defense mechanisms.
However, StarkWare emphasized that the transaction did not make Bitcoin itself quantum secure. Its approach protects only specific outputs, while the entire network still relies on cryptographic systems that may face future risks. The company estimates that the method will cost hundreds of dollars. In addition, such unusual transactions need to be sent to miners through a direct path rather than through Bitcoin's regular mempool.
These limitations illustrate why work presentations do not automatically provide accessible options to everyday users. As a result, Ben-Sasson calls for cost reductions, which apply to the entire process from technical research to wider application.
Zcash prepares to achieve faster block generation through NU7 upgrade
Zcash developers are separately preparing for an NU7 network upgrade to speed up block production. They plan to activate the upgrade on the testnet on October 6 and target to activate it on the mainnet on November 5.
