Wave Field TRON releases GreatVoyage v4.8.2 (code name Pyrrho) Mandatory network upgrades
Wave Field TRON has officially released GreatVoyage v4.8.2, code name Pyrrho. This upgrade is a mandatory network upgrade and requires node operators to complete the update before 23:59 on August 16, Singapore time, so as not to affect block synchronization. Details of this version have been listed in the developer announcement.
The mandatory upgrade of the GreatVoyage series is a regular part of wavefield network operations. If it is not completed on time, nodes may be out of sync with the main chain, which will have a knock-on impact on services that rely on the node.
Ethereum compatibility at the virtual machine level
The key change in this upgrade is that TVM (Wave Field Virtual Machine) is compatible with Ethereum's Pectra and Osaka upgrades, adding features such as CLZ instructions and secp256r1 signature verification precompiled contracts. The move aims to align the wavefield virtual machine with Ethereum development tools, making it easier for developers to migrate and run familiar smart contract workloads.
For developers, this compatibility reduces application migration efforts and brings wavefield development tools closer to the broader EVM ecosystem. Compatibility efforts are important to the network's developer base because it reduces friction in cross-chain builds and broadens the range of code that can run on the chain.
Infrastructure and Tool Chain Changes
In addition to virtual machines, this version also migrates the node's JSON API from the fastjson library to Jackson, migrates monitoring metrics from InfluxDB to Prometheus, and upgrades the wavefield event plug-in to version 3.0.0. Operators using event plug-ins are required to complete plug-in upgrades before upgrading nodes.
These changes are designed to modernize tools around the network rather than change consensus rules, but operators still need to carefully plan upgrades to avoid service interruptions.
Importance of upgrade timing
The wavefield carries a large amount of stablecoin activity, including a significant portion of the USDT supply, so its upgrade has a significant operational impact on wallets, exchanges and indexers that rely on the network. Aligning TVM with the latest upgrades to Ethereum helps the network stay in sync with the broader EVM ecosystem while providing developers with a clearer cross-chain compatibility path. This also suggests that as the two networks continue to evolve, wavefield intends to bring its smart contract environment broadly consistent with Ethereum.
